Just when we thought we’d had enough with Ernesto, we discovered that our boat had been broken into sometime last week. The boat had been serving as our weekend living quarters while the sand was being shoveled out of the cottage. The thieves took the built-in TV & DVD player, rods (custom JB rods and Calcutta reels), Fuji binoculars, DVD’s & CD’s, and some other stuff. Thankfully, they didn’t too much damage, but the boat will have to be brought back to Norfolk Marine for repairs.
The standard locks that come on the boat aren’t much to speak of, but I thought they were more than adequate for Lewisetta. I guess times have changed and I’ll have to upgrade the hardware and my thinking. On a positive note, the sheriff’s department has taken this incident very seriously and is spending a lot of its resources on solving this crime.

Sorry to hear about the loss I would love to catch the SOB's.
Jeff and Liz, that's aweful news! Were you in the slip or blocked up? Hope that they catch the a--holes. We're hoping to get our boat back in the slip soon. Good luck on the return of your gear!

We were in the water.
BTW - congratulations on the addition of a new fisherman to your family. Is he a spining reel or baitcaster type of guy?
Thanks, it depends on who he takes after, as Paula slams the Flounder with the Penn Slammer series and I'm fond of the baitcasters. Just hope that he likes the water. It's Jeff and Monica's turn now!!!

Sorry to hear about this. Hope the thieves are caught and your items recovered.
Regarding MIKEMARSHALLs comment, as a retired cop, I am a believer in locks. Of course, they all can be defeated by someone who is willing to learn how, and spend the time or get the tools to do it, but many thefts are just spur of the moment, targets of opportunity, (often by youngsters) from unlocked, or flimsily locked, places. Locks good enough to slow people down can make would be thieves think twice or look elsewhere for loot. No way for me to know whether that was the case in your burglary, but I hate to see folks not take basic security precautions, at least to stop the opportunists!
Sorry to here about your loss. I worry about mine sitting at Reedville. What can we do, but trust that most people are honest. Check on E-BAY from time to time. Lots of stolen goods are found there.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss. It's bad enough that your material things got swiped but what really sucks is that the rural charm of our Northern Neck has been stolen ,too. The city is moving to the country,it seems.
As a Coan River resident this is distressing news. This is the first theft case, on the river, I have heard of. Hope they are caught and punished.
