    Cool Looking for advice

My family will be coming up 7/17 for a weeks vacation. I will be staying around the mouth of Grassy Creek. I will have 2 ten year old boys with me. My son has caught strpers before, but his best friend never has and doesn't get to go fishing very often. I would love for those 2 boys to be able to catch a few stripers while we are there. I fully understand the mortality rate of fish caught this time of year and I have no plans of keeping a few and turning a bunch loose to die. All I want is for them to catch enough for supper a few times while we are there. Any advice on where to go would be helpful. I probably won't bring the baittank, just some umbrella rigs and a couple of trolling rods. We will mainly be trolling for crappie and catfishing while we are there. Thanks for any help with the stripers or the crappie. We will be in a white Lund with a Honda, if you see us give us a shout.

You should be able to find some fish around buoy 5 area to the dam. If you've got a way to keep your lures in the 28 to 35 foot range at 2.2 to 2.8 mph you should have no problem finding some fish. Try that area and also the Rock Wall, Bluebird, and Tobacco Patch. All in the GMCO book. Double bucktails with green worms, sometimes pink have worked. If you go around buoy 2 watch out for drifting trees, on a color scope they show up as black. I'll be there that w/e too so if you have a VHF give me a holler and I'll telll you if I've found 'em.

Thanks for the advice JBee. You mention Rock Wall,Bluebird, and Tobacco Patch. Are these places marked on Navionics Premium card? I am not familiar with the GMCO book. What kind of boat will you be in?

As far as I know they are not on the Navionics cards. Most local stores in that area will carry a copy of the GMCO book. All these areas are within a mile of buoy 5. Seems a few fish are in the mid-lake area also so up near Grassy may be good too.
I will be in an off-white 18-foot Dixie, usually listening to vhf 68. Camping with the family also so I hope to fish when I'm not towing....we are camping at Hibernia.

Thanks again for the help. I will be on the lookout for you. Thinking about bringing the small bait tank, almost feel like I'm not fishing if I don't have live bait !! Might even see you around the bridges for the fireworks Saturday night. I will have a new fisherman with me and I really want to put him on some fish while he's with us. Love seeing those children smile when they catch one, makes me feel good too. Might not have the radio on so if you see me just pull on up, just watch for the planer boards !
