I have fished at ancarrows landing the last 2 days in a row with nothing not so much as a bite getting depressing. Surf side supposedly has fresh herring and shad out of the mattaponi. Id be interested to see if anything has been happening at walkers yet.

They'll catch them in the nets a couple of weeks before you get them hook and line. Water temp gives them lock jaw. Heard Ancarrows was silted up pretty bad how did you all do in gettting your boats in and out?

I rode down to check Anaccarows Monday as the State boys were leaving from an electro-shocking expedition. Ramp was not as bad as the week before as I think guys like me launching enough times get the silt stirred up and sucked downstream.

Shocker guys got zero, nary a shad, striper, not even a Gizzard shad. The week before they got one lonely American Shad and I got one lonely Hickory Shad. I am going this morning and will post.

I had emailed the James River Parks System on the silted in Ramp ( had heard from friends it was silted in pretty bad) and got this response from Mr. Ralph White. It is nice to see a City angency up on its game. Maybe Mr White can give a class to the Snow crew and Pot Hole Supervisors/Mangers. Just kidding thanks to Mr. White and the City of Richmond for looking out for us Anglers.

Not to worry. We plan to have the slip dredged before the opening of the shad season on Monday, March 15 --- in fact, the company is out checking the site today (wed. 3/10). I suspect it will be done Thurs & Fri. but our yearly contract specifies that it must be started no sooner than 3/1 & completed by 3/15.

No shad in the Nottoway or Apomattox I went to both yesterday. The water is still to cold 42 degrees, they should start biting next week with this warm weather. Hopefully

I fished Wednesday launching out of Anacarrows Landing. I didn't catch any shad but did mark what I believe were shad on the sonar. The water temp was a chilly 44 degrees when I arrived at 9:30 and had warmed to 46 degrees when I left at 1:30 PM.

As I was leaving a crew was dredging out the silt and loading it in a dump truck. Anaccarows is officialy clean. Let the Catching Begin!
