Report: OI Fri June 6th

Yesterday I fished with friends Dave, Jim (Tenacious) and Mike. Nice guys, all. It was really nice having an experienced crew. I got to drive my boat and rib the crew for a change.

We left the inlet about 30 minutes late, waiting for it to get lighter and for the fog to lift a bit, behind the charters. Visibility improved greatly a few miles outside the inlet, but t-storms were around and it was pretty lumpy running. We found a weedline with flyers at the 450 line and managed to pull 9 large to small gaffers off it, until the storms churned up the seas and the weed line, making it difficult to fish and wondering if we should pack it in and make a run for the inlet. Because the storms were all around us, we decided to stay and kept a charter in sight for an hour or so, in case we needed to tuck in behind him. When the wx improved we tried blindly for tiles to no avail and then ran north to the 550-600 area where we found yellowfins skying occasionally and charters working for a slow pick. We worked the area hard to no avail. The run back to the inlet was really nice, almost flat by the time we got to the inlet. I dozed on a bean bag in the corner of the cockpit with Captain Dave at the helm. Thanks, crew, for another memorable day on the water. Had a great time with you guys yesterday. The two fish I took home produce more than enough meat to feed the family and part of the neighborhood. But, I'm still wondering how our dozen gaffers turned into only nine? Can I bring my kindergatener next time to help with the counting? Or, maybe we should hit the drive through in lieu of eating dinner inside Burger King on the way home. Thanks again for keeping us safe and putting us on a bite Bill!

Glad you got some meat Bill. Where you able to find that area I was talking about??

We were a little south of the area we talked about when we first put lines in and I had in mind to troll overboard and then back towards that area, but then we found the weed line and by the time we worked it and dealt with the t-storms were were pretty far from it. We did work another area similar to it, up near the 550 with no results.
