Oregon Inlet Saltwater Fishing Reports
July 9, 2010 Fishing Report:
Offshore more billfish showing up. One boat caught and released 7 white marlin today. Several other boats caught and released white marlin, blue malin and sailfish.Two big eye tunas were caught a 186 pounder and a 146. Several wahoos were caught. Inshore trolling good catches of tailor bluefish and spanish mackerel. One combination trolling and bottom fishing trip had a good catch of triggerfish and spanish mackerel. Open boats caught bluefish, spanish mackerel and sharks. The sharks were released. One fly fishing trip enjoyed catching sharks, spanish mackelrel and bluefish on fly fishing tackle. Miss Oregon Inlet had a good day both morning and afternoon on flounders.
July 8, 2010 Fishing Report:
The scales were tipped towards yellowfin tuna offshore today. Followed by dolphin and some blackfin tunas. There were several nice wahoos caught. Billfish were active two sailfish, 2 white marlin and 2 blue marlin caught and released. Two tunas were lost to other fish. A 35 pounder was gobbled up in one gulp by a blue marlin who then to rub it in made a specatcular jump off the bow. It looked to be around 500 pounds. Another yellow fin was swallowed by a shark who may have been around 800 pounds, really big. A deep drop bottom fishing trip caught sea bass a limit of tilefish and 4 gaffer dolphin. Inshore boats trolling caught tailor bluefish and spanish mackerel. One boat added flounders to the catch and another added amber jacks and dolphin. Open boats caught tailor bluefish and flounders. One caught speckled trout anfd floundrers another caught sharks and sheepshead. Dan and Heather Alton treated four young boys Zach, Sam, Noah and Donnie to an inshore trip. They were impressed with the number of bluefish they caught. They loaded up their cath in a barrel where they were off to be filleted.
July 7, 2010 Fishing Report:
Offshore boats all caught dolphin. One 61 pound citation dolphin was caught. Every catch included some gaffer size dolphins. Yellowfin tunas were scattered amongst the catches. Several sailfish and a white marlin were caught and released. Inshore boats caught tailor bluefish and spanish mackerel trolling. Triggerfish were caught bottom fishing. Open boats caught sharks, bluefish and spanish mackerel. Some red drum were caught and released.

July 11, 2010 Fishing Report:
In Summary: It has been a good week for Sea Mullet, also known as Kingfish or Roundheads. The northern Kingfish have black stripes on its side. We catch northern Kingfish on the Outer Banks also. Sand fleas are the bait of the week. You can also catch Sea Mullet with shrimp, blood worms and simulated bait. Sea Mullet are usually caught in somewhat rough and cloudy water. They are a good fish for the table.
Surf Fishing Report: Surf fishing should be good today. There will be Spot, Sea Mullet, Bluefish and most likely a few Drum.
Sound Fishing Report: The Little Bridge on the Nags Head/Manteo causeway reported Spot and Croaker.
Avalon Pier: Blues, Spanish, Spot and Sea Mullet.
Nags Head Pier: Blues.
Outer Banks Pier: Spot, Croaker, Bluefish and a 27 ½ lb King this morning.
Inshore Boats Report: Nearshore and inshore boat are catching Triggers, Bluefish and a good catch of Spanish.
Offshore Boats Report: Dolphin, Yellowfin and Billfish.
July 10, 2010 Fishing Report:
Surf Fishing Report: Croakers, Spot and Sea Mullet. Water temp is 78 today.
Sound Fishing Report: The Little Bridge on the Nags Head/Manteo causeway reported Black Drum & Croaker.
Avalon Pier: Spot, Croaker & Blues.
Nags Head Pier: Spot, Bluefish & Spanish.
Outer Banks Pier: Spanish & Bluefish.
Inshore Boats Report: Spanish, Blues and Triggers.
Offshore Boats Report: Charters had a great Billfish day. One reported 7 White Marlin. Charters also caught Yellowfin, Wahoo, Dolphin and big Big-eye tuna. One was a 186 pounder.
July 9, 2010 Fishing Report:
In Summary: Fishing was good yesterday. No matter where or what kind of fishing, you were catching.
Surf Fishing Report: Surf fishing was good on Thursday. Some of the locals were fishing their favorite holes and were catching. They reported nice Sea Mullet, Stripers and Black Drum. It can’t get any better than that. Have picture of Marcia Branner with Black Drum. Nice.
Sound Fishing Report: No report this morning. No phone contact.

Nags Head Pier: Slow.
Outer Banks Pier: Bluefish and Spanish.
Inshore Boats Report: Open boats are catching Flounder, Bluefish & Trout.
Offshore Boats Report: Lots of Yellowfin, Dolphin, Blackfin, & Wahoo. Deep water fishing decked Sea Bass & Tilefish.
