Is anyone down on the Rappahannock River near White Stone experiencing extremely high tides due to the NE winds today? I'm not able to make it down this weekend and was wondering how the tide today compared to Ernesto tides. NOAA is saying tides will be 2-3 feet higher than normal which concerns me with my boat on the lift. Any input would be great to ease my mind.

Well, I wasn't here for Ernesto, and I'm on the Piankatank not the Rappahannock. But on the way home I went by the dock and it is completely covered. My boss went this afternoon to get his boat off the lift because he was concerned about it.

Sorry I didn't see the part about 'ease your mind'
I guess the info I gave won't do much easing.[excited]

Tides are definitely running higher than normal, but certainly less than during Ernesto at this time. I am on the north shore of the Rap on Mosquito Creek, and the high tide this morning was about at the level of some of the lower neighborhood docks and 4 inches below my bulkhead. The next high tide is about 2 hours from now. I just checked and the water level is about the same level as the morning high tide. Assuming another 6 inches of increase in the water level in the next two hours during high tide, the water level would still be about 18 inches lower than it was during Ernesto.
If you are on the south shore of the Rap, the water level is likely to be higher than on the north shore.
Currently, my wind gauge is showing 29.7 MPH from the NE with a peak gust of 37.1 MPH at 5:41 PM.
Hope your boat is high and secured. If it is in danger, I suggest you contact a neighbor to put a few lines on it or b-mail me if I can help.

I remembered a link to water levels in the Bay. The following link is for Windmill Point:

http://www.wavy.com/Global/link.asp?L=41628

Remember that the predictions on this chart are just astronomical predictions and do not take into account any tidal effects from the wind. The observations do show the actual water levels.

The 11:45 PM level was 4.04 ft above MLLW or approximately 15 inches lower than the peak level during Ernesto, if I recall correctly. High tide should be occurring now, and I think the water level has peaked unless the wind shifts more to the east.

The water level at my place on Mosquito Creek is about the same as the highest level last night with two hours to go until high tide. I expect the level may rise another 6 inches or to within about 9 inches of the level during Ernesto. I would guess the situation would be similar for Little Oyster Creek.

The tide is within 3 to 4 inches of Ernesto here in Urbanna.

thank you for the replies. Any post-high tide updates are still appreciated. Hope everyone fares better than in Ernesto.

I'M ON THE RAPP. AT JONES POINT. (BUOY 12) THE WATER CAME OVER THE BEACH LAST NIGHT AND THEN AGAIN TODAY. ALL THE YARDS ARE FLOODED AND THE WATER WAS ABOUT 6' BELOW MY FIRST FLOOR. IT'S STARTING TO DROP NOW. I HOPE THIS IS THE LAST HIGH WATER FROM THIS STORM. NO WATER IN THE HOUSE THIS TIME,UNLIKE ERNESTO. ALSO MY BOAT IS ON THE TRAILER AND NOT ON THE LIFT. IT ENDED UP IN MY BACK YARD DURNING ERNESTO. HOPE FOR THE BEST.
