Rapp Ramps

I will be trailering my boat from Woodbridge area. Where is a good ramp on the Rapp or Potomac for a day on the water? I would like to target some rock but will be happy for some craoker and spot since my 6 yr old will be along.

You are going to need to narrow it down some - There are hundreds of decent ramps on the Rappahannock and Potomac - do you want the closest ones? Do you want the best one for good spot fishing locations? For rock fishing locations? (season not in till Oct. 4 in VA, not sure about MD)

The closest is Stafford, Hope Springs, ramp fee is $15....head out of Aquia Creek into potomac.

Colonial Beach has a free ramp....putting you just below 301 bridge on Potomac.

Rte 3 east...about 45min from Fxbg to Westmoreland state park $7 entrance & $4 ramp fee, but this ramp can be tricky landing
if it is windy out.

Continue on rte 3 east and you will find VDGIF ramps for access to the Rapp.....small brown sign. there are two about 15-20 miles further down from Westmoreland State Park.

Maybe I'll go down to Colonial Beach and have a go at it. I guess blood worms are the ticket for spot and croaker? Thanks for your help there.
As far as where on the Rapp/Potomac goes, I am looking for somewhere close to good fishing, but not more than an hour drive/trailer from Woodbridge.

An hour from Woodbridge??? Might as well stay there and fish out of Leesylvania State Park. State ramp.
Or maybe launch at the 'sort of' ramp at Quantico Marine Base on the Chopawamsic (sp?)Creek.

Anyone familiar with the Quantico Ramp? The dry storage is only $25/month, so I may go check it out. I need a new home for my boat since I can't keep it at the house.

If I launch out of Leesylvania or Quantico what are some nearby spots to try? Not looking for anyone's honey-holes, just some options to get me started on the Potomac.

On the left it links to 'Potomac tours' where you can find lots of info. It actually mentions some of the prime areas to fish.

As for the ramp, you travel the road past the airfield south until you cross the Chopawamsic Cr., then go around the buildings on your right and head back to the creek. Seems like there's always someone parked there.

It is unimproved, so go look at it BEFORE you go to launch to see if you can get your boat in there.

While I have not been to Quantico in 2 or 3 years and then I used a car-top boat, here's what I know. There were a number of ramps on base. Some on lakes. There were two plus a car-top only for the big water. One is on the Chop near the airport. The other on Quantico Creek. Both were nothing but a ramp and small parking area. I do not know about current condition. Fishing would be mostly fresh water. You may need a base fishing license. They are cheep and not needed if over 65( like me).
I do not know about the Town marina.
