Boat: Reel Fancy
Crew: Andy, Sean, Marty, Stu, Hank, Randy, Beck and me
Took this crew out for part of Andy's bachelors party. Congrats Andy!
No water local so we had to run way South. Fished 950 to 975 in 70.5 to 72.3 temp. w/ minimal if any current. Beautiful conditions.
Slower bite than what we heard there had been earlier in the week, but still managed a good day!
With lots of boats pounding the area, the key was to run the baits WWB while over running and cutting off schools of atlantic bonita's allowing the baits to cross through the school, but not the boat.
Managed 3 for 5 wahoo (not bad for all mono leaders)... 9 nice tuna losing many more to pulled hooks and missed boils (not sure why, it was awful calm out there and I believe they were a little finiky)... Lost a pair of gaffers off a logger head turtle, but came back around and found some smaller chickens to bail.
Also had a nice sail fish and a mako shark release.
Wish I had more time to stay because it seemed the bite got better later in the day, but we had to make the long trip back. If the weather looked better we would have stayed later to try to get our limit then pull into Hatteras for the night, but Sat. was supposed to be nasty...
Sure was pretty out there Friday. Great crew, nice meeting you guys... Can't wait for the water to move North.
See pics below... Bill-

Nice work Bill, sure was a long haul from OI wasn't it? That water sure looked nice down there based on the shot. I was wondering if you heard anything about any bite near the 550 or did everyone bite the bullet and run south?

Terp, man this software is awesome!! Now I can get way more images to choose from, combined with the altimetry and chlorophyll from Hiltons. When I compared the accuracy of the cords to the others, all checked out. Don't know how you came up with all this but kudos to ya!! Thanks again. Let’s get up a trip soon.
Jimmy the altimetry sure does seem to point its finger. Looking at the sats for Fri. I would of thought that the point & just below would of been holding but the altimetry said go south as it has almost all spring & I needed a more sure thing even if it was a LONG RUN.
Bill.

Pretty work!! I heard the fish were finicky. My bro and a crew took my boat out of Teach's and managed some nice hoos, a mako and a tuna. They said it was tough going and they felt lucky for what they got.

Trex, Altimetry shows active upwellings wich should bring the small plankton that bait feeds on. Atleast thats my understanding of how it helps fishing.
Bill.
10-4, interesting. I'd really like to sit down sometime and get Terps system totally understood. Seems like he's definitely on to it! I've seen some crazy $h!t down there arond the 000 and 950! Upwellings, or actually whirlpools where the current was hitting the edge down there and giving everything the big spin. Only seen it once, but it was almost freaky! I'm pretty sure the moon had alot to do w/ it as the fishing wasn't all that great that day in particular. It was a sight to see though! Thanks for the explanation. I'd never heard of that.
gosh hit and run who spit in your grits this morning? i thought my post congradulated u on your great catch. i just commented on the number of people that were having fun on your boat, but lets put things in to perspective, if u can afford the boat you should be able to afford the gas!! The Devils Advocate strikes again. By the way i've been doing it for thirty years and my dues are paid in full. once again great catch and u have a great day!!!!

Nice mix of fish. Maybe we can get out next weekend.

DCM, don't be a pu$$y. You meant it as a smarta$$ and you know it. It wasn't the first time you made similar comments. If you've paid your dues and want to be on here sharing info like everyone else, how bout you post a tip? Or you on here just to beat your chest about how good you are?
i have yet to mention how good i am in any post but if there is something you would like to know about offshore fishing i would be glad to help. no potty mouth please.
Pretty Work Bill!! Hope to get out Friday after the body recovers from the Panic weekend![smile]

Nice catch Bill & Company. I knew you'd keep pulling 'till you got into them again. Pretty Sailfish. Trex- I am trying out Hilton's site this year also and here is their def. of Altimetry: "The measurement of the height of the surface of the ocean. A contour map that is not visable to the human eye but is detectable by satellite instrumentation and other data." (shows upwellings) Just another bit of info to throw in the mix to determine where to fish.

Awesome Bill, just awesome!
Looks like another one of the TF veteran captains is back on their A Game!!![excited] Hopefully there will be many more similar posts as the season cranks up in your local waters. [grin]
I know it had to be a hard call for you to make the decision to make that long run to find the good water, obviously it was an excellent decision made based on your correct interpretation of good data.
Great to see all your hard work paying dividends.
Most on this board know you have not only paid your dues through hard work, but have always been willing to help others by sharing information, assistance, your beautiful house, and of course offshore fishing trips on your Fish Magnet Reel Fancy... [grin]
Awesome Baby, Simply Awesome!!!!

There's tons of good reading on theories, etc on the subject. All the information can help you understand the dynamics behind it all. It doesn't necessarily mean fish in the box but it's better than running blind.

Bottom line is the base nutrient in the food chain starts the ball rolling. Oddest thing is you'd think that pretty clear blue stream water would be the ticket but it usually isn't because it doesn't contain the basic nutrient building block.

Wow, where to begin???
Terp- Your program is awesome... I don't know much of what to look for but it was easy enough for me to figure out how to put it all together so Bill could read it... Worked great!!! Kudos on the brains it took to put it all together!!!
Randy- Welcome to the world of Offshore Fishing!!! Your hooked now and there is no turning back... So you might as well open your wallet, spend all your money, get a divorce (unless your wife likes you being gone every weekend) and get used to getting "Ready" for the next trip!!! [grin][grin][grin] jk, but it is quite addicting!!!
Jim- Those purple witches are still hanging on.. We got alot of our bites on them... One was looking pretty bad before the trip so after catching a few more on it we decided to retire it... I'll be pulling what's left apart and re-tying it... I need to stock up on all colors just to be ready but will always have a good supply of those!!! Haven't gone wrong on them yet!!! [wink]
Andy- Congrats man... It was fun being out there and since the occasion was all about you it was cool that you ended up w/ the sail and the mako... Hope your fiance isn't too mad about a chic being on the boat... [tongue] Next time bring her and she'll see that I'm all about the fishing!!!
J-Man- What a rush... Leading the sail was awesome... There is something to be said about grabbing the bill of any of the billed species and feeling the power they have in their tails... Last season I leadered the white, now a sail, next I want the Man in the Blue Suit!!!!! [excited][excited][excited]
To the crew: You guys were awesome!!! It was so much fun to go out there and show you guys something once and then watch you run with it!!! The whole trip was exciting and you guys rock!!! You all did very well and I'd fish beside you any day!!! Come on back when your ready for more!!! [excited][excited]
Side note to Marty... Extra kudos to you... In all my trips offshore from Bill's house I've never had anyone take notice of the spare sheets in each room and take the initiave to re-make the bed after stripping the used sheets!!! You get an A+ in my book even if you do crank like a girl... [grin][wink][tongue][excited]
Sorry, I had to bust on someone!!!
