Looking to rig a few bars real soon for a buddy that fishes out of Carolina alot. Does anyone have a certain color they find to be more productive and consistent on a day to day basis. Or is it more of what the fishing are looking for that particular day? Looking at the squid selection that Jimmy K has and was just trying to get some advice.
Thanks Shawn

Rainbow squids do really well up here. So do Green and Purple/Black

I have had good luck with green squid bars and pink squid bars. I personally like the splash bars (the ones with the birds).

Alot of guys up here praise Bill (squidnations) Rasta Bars. I don't own any so I don't know first hand.

Don't you just love the way those bird bars pull Franky? I normally drop one of those right in the middle of my spread. The zuchinni colored one is my go to. I have a black and purple that has been mauled several times by those funny looking fish with the pointy nose too. Pink or blue and white get pulled a lot too.

I have some small high speed bars that I will pull early season mostly from the flat lines or short riggers. These are loaded with 20+ 3" natural colored or pink squids. When the tuners are eating on small stuff these can be the ticket, and if there is a black fin within 20 miles he'll find it.

The few trips I've been on down NC way (on Charters) they pulled either a Blue/White Bar or a the Dolphin (green/yellow/blue/white) bar (13" squids I think) with a green machine trailer. Both colors worked on all of the trips...

When we went with Nolan last year in November I watched them zero in on the Dolphin bar a couple times but the fish were hungry and ate everything that day...

I have one more bar to finish and I'm teetering between these two colors.

The main bar pulled in Carolina would be blue&white and the second would be pink. They pull the big squids 15 inch.

The big squids are awesome if you can pull them. It's alot for a 50 at the distances most pull them. I'm a firm believer in green, b/w, and pink, but I will say that the rainbow bars seem to be pretty darn good above the DMZ. Never pulled them below.

Good point Tommy. Just what does everyone pull for their trailer behind the spreader bar?

My favorites in this order

1. Ilander flasher with Ballyhoo
2. Heavy GM
3. Jethead with bright skirt
4. NP Jimmywitch with med bally

I like islander trackers in front of hoos, green machines, zukers, just about anything pointy headed. On rougher days I find that slightly heavier headed stuff helps the bars track.

Depending on how the fishing is, if it is fast and furious, just the lure types, when it is not quite so good, the meat behind the bar makes me feel better about my efforts.

Another standby behind the bar is an odd colored squide from the rest of the bar. ie green squid behind a pink squid congregation.

I like the odd colored/sized squid too. And of course the green machine. I have never really pulled meat behind the bar, but I don;t see why that wouldn't be effective. I'll have to give that one a whirl the next time out.

the white widow. I think Jimmy K sells them. 5" white squid body rigged with beads and a fang hook. Got murdered last year when nothing else was producing.

We used to pull meat behind the bars, but I dont think it really increased our bites over a GM or anything else. It did cause more work though. Especially if there was any grass around.

Yep, that's a Carolina favorite. Moldcraft squid with a pink or red hoochie stuffed inside and a fang hook. When it's hot , that one is deadly.

What's a "fang hook"?

Like a treble hook, but only 2 hooks instead of three.

Has anyone pulled the rainbow bars at Hatteras and OI with any success?

Thanks,
Doug
