During my recent trip to Hatteras, I was helped out by several good people down there. Other than the motel reservation, we didn't know anyone down there.

Pulled my boat from Kent Island 4/8. One the way we encountered significant trailer problems. Arrived late evening in the teeth of a Nor'easter. Fishing plans on-hold.

Now the good part. Sunday morning arrived cloudy and blowing. Fishing is out, but we do the next best thing...a tour of the local tackle and marina shops! In one, we struck up a conversation with a nice fellow about the weather and the recent fishing. 10 minutes into it, I mentioned my trailer ills and any thoughts on mechanics.

This as yet still unknown gentlemen gets his cell phone from his vehicle (in the wind and rain) and proceeds to give me contact info for a local mechanics. Only later did this good samaritan introduce himself as Andy (That's Captain Andy Piland of the Good Times, Hatteras Harbor Marina).

While I did not get to fish with Capt. Andy, from our meeting, I can't imagine a friendlier, harder-working guy to fish with.

And...if you find yourself with vehicle problems down there. I can highly recommend Gary's Auto Service (oceanside Frisco). Gary made my trailer road-worthy for the long ride back in good order.

The weather and the fish were a whole lot less cooperative.

Sorry to hear about your trailer problems. That justs adds to a miserable weather delay. As for Andy Piland, he is a class act guy. I fished on the "Good Times" a few years back and we had a blast. Caught a ton of fish too. Glad to see you made it back safe and sound. Better luck next time.

Thats the biggest thing I like about visiting the southern states. I like it when a person looks you in the eyes and say hello. Around here people are going so fast if you look them and say hi they look away and you see there lips move but say nothing at all. THATS SAD

I talk to my wife all the time about moving south but thats all they need is another yank getting in the way.

Sorry to hear about all of your problems. You're so right about the good people of Hatteras. When I first started going to Hatteras in the 70's I was always made to feel at home because of the friendly nature of those folks. Some of those folks are gone now, but you can still find new friends that really seem to care about you. Just a few miles north the complexion changes a lot. Hope your next trip is a lot smoother!
