Went out to hotdog last thurs. Glassy calm with long swells. Tried trolling around hotdog, then tried chunking. Nothing but dolphin. Also those small brownish fish about 8inches long. Any one know what they are? Saw some tuna jumping but couldn't get off the anchor quick enough. A small tired bat landing on my boat and proceeded to sleep under my fish finder bracket. It got rough on the way in, especially the last 5 miles. Got beat up pretty good in my 22 Grady. Oh the bat slept through the whole thing.

Wow!! We were fishing around the Wash canyon on Thurs also and a bat landed on our boat too. They must be migrating. He slept in the hardtop the whole ride in. You never know what you'll see out there. I think those fish you saw were Bar Jacks.

Wow, someone finally fished the OC waters. Seems the OC fleet really has been enjoying the VA waters this summer. Sounds like the mahi have taken residence up there as well. We caught those fish you were speaking of, we called em shyte heads because shyte head Billy had the time of his life catchin em!!!!

Ive never seen it that dead. Even for a thursday. Had the whole boat launch to myself at 6am! Out at the hotdog saw a handful of boats but I think i was the only one chunking. Concidering how calm it was I don't understand it. Some others caught tuna, but for us only mahis.

$3.00 fuel prices keeps a lot of boats at home.

BTW bar jacks are great live bait.

How much fuel did you burn on your boat?

I went about 82 nm or 105 statute miles or so. Burned about 35 gallons with my honda 225. would have burned 60 gallons with my old Johnson 200 plus it needed 93 octane and 2 stroke oil. Not to mention I was always worried about it dying out there.

That's fantastic.I once went to the 21 mi.Hill from OC.53 ea.way in Sept 93.There were some 100# + Bluefins there at that time,Caught 2 over 100 that day & broke 2 more off(Mates knot)Anyway I burnt 77gal.that day in my 24 Grady/200 Merc. The guy back at the Gas dock didn't believe that I caught the big fish(at that time) at the 21 mi.Hill because he said I didn't burn enough fuel. With your engine,20% more distance,I would have burnt around 50 gal. That's a big difference these days at these prices.
