Boat: Reel Fancy
Crew: Brian, Jim, Sandy, Gene, Tilford and Me

Mission: Big Eye on the troll

Fished the 650 hole all day amongst 50 million charters on a fart flat sea. Super slow and tough due to 6 straight days of heavy pressure.

5 for 10 on YFT due to pulled hooks. Not sure why, just one of those days.

1 for 2 on Big Eye's. 1 broke off

Coolest part of the day was when we saw the BIG EYE mark and started jigging and the first EYE smashed my center rigger with a boil as big as the bow of my boat and I about $hit my pants. It didn't come tight but everyone saw it and grabbed lines and started jigging and Sandy hooked up on the right short. If that wasn't enough then came the YFT crashing the other baits which results in 3 more hook ups of which a hook pulled but we landed 2!!! [excited][excited][excited]

Sandy's Big Eye broke the main line. [sad]

In the last half hour the short rigger popped and Tilly's 146 lb citation was hooked and fought for approx. 30 minutes and came to Jim's gaff and our mission was accomplished.

The fishing is tough right now and we need another blow and a break from the fleet in this area. It is pounded.

A buddy of mine was on a charter and left the 650 hole and steamed north to the 800 and a nice class of YFT were up there and snapping.

Thanks crew for doing a great job w/ zero mistakes all day! Any fish that were lost were out of our control.

Bill

Bill,

I know you all are out there at sun up, but are you staying until sunset as well? Are you getting an extra 3 or 4 hours out there?

With Gas prices it kind makes sense if your crew is up to it.

As always, It's a pleasure fishing with you Bill.
We did work hard for those fish. They where pressured all day by the fleet. We just waited it out and it paid off.
Brian, Gene, Tilford, and Jim, good fishing with you guys.

Third time in six days--- Sunday, Monday & Friday--- got to fish with a reel quality crew. On Friday we all mated- angled & gafted. Thanks to; Becky for tying those deadly alluring sea witches.... and thanks for the full course breakfast, Gene for passing the Bourbon around...next time I will bring some Cruzan Rum, Sandy, Brian, Tilford for having the boat loaded and ready, Bill for getting us to the fishing hole and back in the dark, dodging crab pots for twenty miles to/from the inlet and most of all thanks... 150 lb. Big Eye Tuna for being a greedy hog, who with a full belly of squid couldn't resist that short right rigger bait--- You brought out the little boy in me when you came to gaff and over the gunnel and that doesn't happen often enough.
Thanks Brian for cleaning the boat, I had rather clean fish any time, but will take turns if asked.

Breathtaking trip. I humbly request tips on rigging for bigeye. Any difference in the spread or is it just location, location, location and time?

This was a very rewarding trip, considering all the time invested & prior near misses. It is very hard to compete with the best fishing fleet on earth. They are the very best.

The area these Big Eyes are comming from is rather small & with all the hype, the relentless pressure is non stop.

In the early mor, you can see the fish & bait at about 20-30 fat, but soon after the fleet arrives & the sun starts to rise over head, the bait & fish drop out of close range. The reverse occures in the evening with life steadly building from about 4pm till dark.

It is just a theory of mine but I believe that longer/higher out riggers would help by reducing visible line in the water, which kills the highly pressured tuna bite. One day I hope to save money & get much larger one's.

We are fortunate to consistantly have such good crew. Those who are regular faces know how I feel about them & my great appreciation for what each person brings to the days team.

I have been blessed to have met so many awsome people, who now, many have become best friends!!!

I am allways amazed at what great people I continue to meet through this board!!!!

Tillford, it took awhile to hook up but you are no exception. You can fish with us any time.

Thank's again to all my friend's new & old, you guys are what keep me driving 5 hr's each way from my home in Northern VA, every weekend possible. I hope to continue finding more friends.[excited][excited] Bill.
