Crew of Friends - Randall (Dfishwiz), Joe (Chris Kay), Mike (Swan Caller), Tony (Reel World) & Tony (Thebarge) & Myself Lucian (Fishin Fool).

We Left Lynnhaven and ran to the tip of the Norfolk Canyon, we were the first ones there, put out a spread and trolled the north wall, fish on (double) two 30 lb class YFT in the box, we made another pass and put in a third (I have video footage of Joe actually cranking a fish to the boat).. We had a few more bites, but they never came tight.

After working over the same area for a while and not putting any more meat in the box, we trolled to the pots and picked up a few bailers (14).

We heard of a bite along the North Eastern Wall and ran over, lots of life pilot whales, dolphin and a big old blue free jumping, we had multiple knockdowns with only 1 coming tight, Randal cranked a very nice YFT to the boat and it was lost at the leader (shi^ happens).

I decided to troll west, at the 30 fathom line when 5 lines went down, one came tight another 30 lb class YFT in the box.

We decided to call it a day and started running in, saw a nice sargasm mat and decided to give it a look, it was loaded with small jacks, had a little fun C&R before calling it a day.

Final Talley
4 YFT
15 Mahi

Not our most productive day, but a great time with good friends. We could have bailed a boat load of mahi, but we were looking for Charlie, and the tunas are there, most of our marks were 50 fathoms (300') down. I heard of a few boats getting more tunas and some without any, I guess that's the way it goes.

I took a little video footage and if anything turned out I will post it later.

It was good to see so many Tidalfishers out there!![smile]

BTW: Not one balleyhoo was hit all day, everything came off green baits...

Good Luck Mike!!! I know it has been a long process for you getting her back up to your standards... Come on down soon and we'll head to OI for a little pullage... Or it'll soon be Striper season and we can toy around with light tackle.

Lucian: Sounds like you & crew had a good day. Surprised to hear no strikes on the hoos. Were they skirted or naked?

Tom:
We had skirted, nakeds, split bills, pink, blue/white sail lures, purple/crystal/black and the list goes on.... We just could not buy a bite on a balleyhoo.. All baits were fresh (Bait Masters), brined and perfectly prepared.

It was just a Greenie Weenie Day for us (Don't Tell Marty[grin]).

Nice job, Lucian. As we played on the beach with pup yesterday, I wondered if I shouldn't have been offshore.

Nice work! Heard you on radio. We tried to work North, but the boat wanted to move E and W all day. (South of you)

Thanks Lucian. I am going to make some changes in my spread next time (Friday or Saturday, weather permitting). We used our traditional spread this past Monday and had a fair day, except for one blood-knot that I must have tied when I was half-asleep. We never got a nibble on the greenies! The best plan anyone could have is to be able to change plans.... I'll be better prepared next time. Glad you got out there for a fix, I know you were getting "antsie".

Nice working with/around you all day. We went SW late in the day hoping to find a nice grass mat to bail some dolphin, but never found anyone home, just a falsie at the fingers. Sounds like you had some good action. Saw you blow past us on the way in near Cape Henry, nothing like hauling a lite a$$ after a nice day fishing.

What was your final catch??? I thought you picked up 5 or so tuna... Also, did Garrett ger the Biggest Fish??? That is one cool little dude!![grin]

I think I found a set of seas my boat doesn't like SE Swells with a SW Wind Wave... I don't know who was more confused, me or the seas...

I also started loosing my steering on the way in, I guess I still have a hydraulic leak some where, back to the shop..

Way to go Lucian!!! Glad to hear you got into some nice fish. You must of had a bunch of Irish fish out there....they only liked green???? Guess you had it covered cuz you got some fish. Some days they want one thing the next they want something else....sounds a lot like women. Got 10 hours of break in on the new powerhead and she will be ready to race you offshore. See you at the starting line.....[grin][grin][grin] Martin

Martin:
I give in, you can have the lead offshore, especially since you have the faster boat...

Dave:
They were all over the bars and anything plastic and green, it was the first time I ever had an all plastic day, not a single hit on a balleyhoo...

I plan on putting the Video up today, there is not too much footage, but it is comical..[grin]

Congrats on an a good catch for a tough day. The fish were down with the bait at 50-70 fat, most of the day for us as well. Only early mor & after 4:00, could we locate bait at 30 fat. Hope your pretty water holds for a extended fall. Good luck Bill.

Lou i had to bow to the greenie. fished the naked's and nothing nadda and I would not bow to pulling one in. I fished one all day and it was beside my green bar that the tuna was just raping. it was humbling.[sad]

Lucian,

Too bad about the steering....you're having my kind of luck. Hopefully it's just a loose fitting somewhere. You're boat isn't old enough to have a helm shaft seal going bad.

Garrett had a great time, and he always catches the biggest fish (just ask him!) I screwed up and forgot to give him his seasick pills the night before so he was feeling a bad once we started trolling in the rollers. Luckily a few sips of sprite and a timely YFT got his mind off that and he was fine the rest of the time.

I figured you would slice through that mess without any problem. But, anytime you get wind/swell 90 degrees apart, wierd things can happen. She sure looked good scooting on by at the mouth of the bay, I was wishing my beast could fly along like that! I gotta keep playing that Mega-Millions.

Can't wait to get out there again.

Bill:
I talked with Matt Smith - Smith Marine Electric and he says he'll be on the boat Tues. morning... I hope he gets her right quick, I'm planning on a run to Hatteras for the Wahoo bite on Sunday, weather cooperating of course.

Fingers are CROSSED!!!
