Headed out from OC on buddy Billy's 30 Marlin. Started a few miles north of the 900/800 in 30f. Massive weed line, looked like a fish tank down there w/all the fishes, turtles, and whales. Bailed the daylights outa mahi and used up 1/2 our flat.

Moved away from the weed line cuz you couldn't get chunk in w/out something eating it. Put "volunteer Bob", a 5" live spot, on a circle and floated him back about 70' down using a 4 oz weight. Released a falsie on the floater then had a yft on that chaffed through and swam off. Next thing know Bob's float gets missing and the 50 is singing. This time was operator error, reel man reeled the weight/rubber band into the rod tip and locked the line in the guide right at the wind on w/the yft just outa gaff range. Very painful to watch them swim away like that. Now 0 for 2 and outa chunk. Did I mention that Billy SAID he netted 2 5 gallon buckets of bunker (BS) and we didn't need 2 flats of butters? Everything was 40lb fc.

With 1 pack of hoos in hand we moved out to some lumps in 40f and found another massive weed line. Once again it was mahi after mahi. They'd come running and jumping from the weeds to smash everything that floated, I began to think they were bluefish. Now down to our last hoo and ready to call it a rod gets hammered and we land a 50lb yft to end it.

Terp,

Good job on the mahi and way to finish with yft. Still makes for a great day. Looks they are still there. We had to get away from the mahi also. They ate everything you threw in. I even dropped the hook with no bait and hooked up.

Terp - you guys had a great day compared to most. Nice work on landing a tuna, and I know your pain all too well when you watched another one swim away from the boat. We spent too much time on the chunk with no results, and then too much time dodging weeds and huge schools of dolphins inside the Washington. So we didn't have much time to work the well-defined weed lines up the 40 line. We were going to try again today on "Reel Buster" but checked the buoys which were reporting 15-17 gusting 20 all night. We decided to try again next week.

I just hate it when you can't get past all the mahi. It is such a big problem!!!!!!

When we got back in yesterday it was blowin a gale. Had it off our port stern so it was smooth sailin'. Hope those weeds stay put cuz I'm going back next week if the wife let's me.

Terp - You're right about that wind having a switch. When we cranked up on the 40 line to come home, we commented that there wasn't a ripple and it looked like smooth sailing. 30 min later, I asked, "What are those little white things on the surface?" Next thing we knew we were in a washing machine. It came from nowhere. Like u said, it was coming from the port rear, so we were able to cruise at 20 knots, courtesy of Carolina Classic Corp. This morning, it is still doing the same thing, and we just couldn't face going back out against that chop.

Funny, just spoke to the angler and he said that he mention to you that the weight needed to be removed... Who's to blame?!?!? ... Let's start the finger pointing!!

Poor guys.... can't keep the green-yellow-blue critters off your line.... I was at work being a good boy while you guys crushed the dolphin. You sux !

You need some sword services tonight ?

Pat,

When Terp mentioned the angler messed up I thought he was talking about you, but then I said no he wouldn't do that.
You should have fished on Mon. We slayed them yft, could watch them taking the bait. Then fought off bailers behind the boat, then more tunas.

We ran out of room for fish and were back by 12:45. Our best day on the boat. May try it 1 more time in 2 weeks.

Brian- I was grounded, had to get the little one to day care and couldn't get it worked out... Wish I could have gone.

But with so much tuna on Monday, where is my phone call to pick up some meat ?!?!? Huh ?!?!?[wink]

Dave said Terp went TredHeels on him, screaming and yelling at everyone ! [grin]

Pat,

That sux. If you want some I got plenty. We had a blast, 2 on the deck and 2 hooked up, and it was like a lake. We each reeled in 2. We went 8 for 11, 1 was screaming at blinding speed, maybe a wahoo even after I pushed the drag up he wasn't slowing dumped half a 50 wide then after 10 min. broke off. The only things yelled were, watch out for the tuna on the deck and drop a line I can see them right here.

Casey was the only one with a body shot on the gaff.

Hope you get out soon the fish are there.

No Pat, I didn't hear Dave although it appears that Billy did. I was busy getting the gaff and gloves on. Billy said he saw it go down, I take no blame for angler incompetence [grin].

Next week sometime if the weather allows?

Dave didn't tell me that you went bizerk, I just assumed it knowing you !!!! Unless I can figure something out, I doubt it, but I'm going to start to work on it now. We'll see.....

I can bring some by your house if you like just give me a call on my cell since you have the number and leave a message I'll get back to you. The tuna is vaccum sealed also.
