OT-ish, Spanish and leader wheel storage questions

(I'm putting this up on the Ches. Bay board too, sorry if your seeing for a second time)

I'm going to try for the spanish this weekend....are they spooked by down riggers ?

I'm also looking for a few good rigs.....I'm got an idea for storing leader wheels...

I was thinking about making a fork rig with a pvc tee and a modified piece of pipe. This would still allow for storing a casting rod in the holder and storing the leader wheels....Then I saw this this AM in my new fisherman (hope that's enough of a credit for them)....

Anyone have any idea where I can find this or rig one, but I have to keep it mobile...

I believe storing your spanish rigs on a spool is a good idea. That 20# leader just doesn't coil up as well as the heavier stuff. I'm just not one to bring a million different baits and colors out tuna fishing with me. 20 at the most is really all you'll ever need. These can be coiled up nicely by hand and placed in a bucket w/ the hooks hooked on the edge of the bucket. Keeps everything simple. I think sometimes if you have a gazillion different colors with you you tend to second guess yourself too much. Stick with what works normally and I end up doing just fine. If they're around and biting that is. If your fishing crank ons you can store your extra witches in a small tackle box and just snip your leader at the swivel, slide the witch off you want to change, then slide your new one on and re-crimp. It's fast and clutter free. Anyways, just an idea

Thanks, I actually have bay leaders and rigs too I'm hoping to manage a little better. I only hope to get offshore stuff.

We killed them this summer with a 2 oz inline trolling sinker rigged to 15-20 ft of 25 lb fluro and your favorite spoon[grin]. We caught them on planer/spoons too it just had no sport bc half the time they didnt knock the planer loose.

That's a great setup. The problem I have with the others is that they leave the hooks exposed either on the inside or somehow on the outside.

With your rig the hooks look to be semi-protected. Did you find that bucket somewhere special or order it ?

I bought it at Lowes if I remember correctly. I took a jigsaw and cut about 1 1/2" off of the top down to where that lip is. Sanded the edges with sandpaper, and drilled holes for the hooks. The underside of the lip is waffled. That helps keep the top sturdy. Funny how fishermen are always looking for things they can convert & use on the water.
