Wye Not

Well, My fiancee and I caught our first Wye crabs today. We got a late start but managed to get 15 keepers. I must say that after crabbing down in DE for the last few years and having not been to the Chessie since i was kid, it was a thrill to be back and catch some real beauties. Biggest one was 8 inches and heavy! The majority were7+. Smallest 6.5. Only had 1 throw back. Rays everywhere too. It was a slow day, we moved our traps a few times. Caught them early in 5-7ft then in late AM in about 10-12. It was a beautiful day and we had a blast even though they weren't there in #'s. Kevin hooked me up with some great topless traps....very nice and quick delivery too!!
I think it's safe to say i'm hooked on this crabbing thing now. Only problem is which hobby is going to get bumped!
Thanks for all the help from the vets on this board....we had a great time and it was beatiful down there on the Wye....I have a feeling i will be back in the very near future.[grin]

Hey Mike. We were pretty far down, but then again we kinda wanted to check everything out and run the boat a bit too. It really is pretty down there. Rays were all over the place, but we really couldn't have asked for a nicer day. Was just glad to see some monsters today....must be steroids in that water!grin]

Thanks Burch. Now i see what you guys get so wound up for crabbing. These aren't your normal run of the mill crabs. Can't wait to go again![excited]

Rookie, word to the wise. Don't not ice the crabs . That kills them, simplest way to keep them live evne on a hot day such as today is to to keep tem in the shade and moist. Place a wet towel over them. When crabs die the bacteria sets in quickly and make for nasty result if eaten after they die.

Thanks for the advice. Actually they were being chilled so i could clean them without being pinched[wink]. I put them in the basket with a wet towel over them till i get home, then ice em' down and clean em for steaming. Fiance is not a big fan of the mustard so i try to accommodate.
Thanks for the concern though...seafood poisoning is no treat!
