Heading to Colington Island (behind Wright Brothers Site) on the sound over July 4th. I was wondering if anyone has had success crabbing in the sound of OBX. If so, any helpful hints would be greatly appreciated. I plan on buying some new topless traps for the trip.

Please post your results, I will be heading down for the first week in August, and am going to try crabbing as well.

Hey Berkey, Chilli said you gave up fishing and hunting[grin] Best of luck to both of ya. I'll be down in September catching those commie trout I hope. JR you should put this on the North Carolina board.

will do, but I figured that this board gets all the traffic, including many who travel down there.

Steve,
Just about gave up fishing (bay), saving time for ducks. I will be out on the Susky tomorrow though. Yeh chilli got me hooked on the offshore thing, so now catching bay fish just isn't the same

I have crabbed further south on Hatteras Island and only caught undersize crabs. I have seen folks catching crabs in your location but they are nothing like the size that we are used to catching in Maryland. You may luck out and get a few keepers..
