Floats?

A stupid question from a newbie. In Md do you need to use a floatation which has all of your personal info on it or is that just for pots left in the water unattended? Or am i just way off all together. Trying to figure out how to lay out some rings or traps and don't want to do it illegally. Any help is much appreciated!
