We crabbed Saturday in Purnell bay (a few miles south of Public Landing on Chincoteague Bay).
We ran 1000 feet of snod trotline baited with bull lips. We ran the line 3 times and had 11 dozen crabs in the basket. Since we non commercial we stopped at that point. The trotline went into the water at 9:05 AM and we were finished at 10:10 AM.
About 50/50 male/female. Not huge crabs (they almost never are down there) but most were nice and heavy, grit free and sweet.
So for those of you who live down that way, or find yourself on the Chincoteague bay, the crabbing is HOT....Just remember if you are in Virginia, max Trotline length is only 300 feet WITH a permit, in MD it's a lot longer.
