Hey Pinchy,
Aren't you from PA. I would think you're best bet would be to stop by Harbor Spice in Forest Hill. Their #1375 is almost identical to JO and you can get 50 lb for around $60.
Seems like a pretty good deal to me.

JO #2 can also be found at Angler's Sport Center on Rt 50 just west of the Bay Bridge or East of Annapolis.

I have purchased J.O.Spice at a factory distribution center at the following location: J.O. Spice Co., 3721 Old Germantowne Rd., Halethorpe, MD 21227; 410-247-5205 They also sale at this location the other JO Spice Products, They sale #2 spice in multiple size containers and I have found this location the least expensive. Give them a call and get their prices since I have forgotten.

Bringing up the J.O. topic again, I want to ask if the spice can go bad after a period of time. I have 2-5lb. buckets of J.O. #2, one is opened. What is the shelf life on these unopened and opened. If I can start catching crabs, I probably don`t have to worry about this.

Definitely has a shelf life. It will lose that bright orange look and get kind of washed out looking. Basically loses the heat - when that happens, we usually put a little fresh Old Bay on with the JO, and if that's not good enough, you can add some red pepper flakes.
If all you have is 2 - 5lb containers you should be okay - I usually buy a 75lb box, takes a year or so to start losing it's flavor.

I talked to the JO Distributor off of Rte 1 in Henlopen and they told me that you will lose the bright orange from the effects of light but the flavor will be good for at least a year or longer. Store in a dark place(i.e. no direct light) the effect bright orange should be minimized.

We bought a 50 lb. box last year and I vacuum sealed what was left, stuck it on the freezer and it's as fresh this year as it was when we bought it. FJ

Current Baltimore locations since Bosch Dist is out of business:
Breezy point Seafood next to old Bosch location on rt7 in Rosedale (my old turf)
25lbs @ $38.50
50lbs @ $49.95

JO Spice in Halethorpe
25lbs @ $41.20

I have been out of serious crabbing for approx 4 years while I was making babies and I used some 4 year old #2 last week on a bushel with no complaints.......but boy was it pale in color.
