Maybe you can use your contacts with Rio to get some changes made in line design & line rating.

This lowly country boy from VA doesn't carry much weight, but I've been telling line reps for years that they need to make a full intermediate line in hi-vis but with a clear tip instead of making the entire line clear. I hate clear intermediates b/c they are not visible to the caster. The clear line is difficult to track in the air & see under your foot or around a cleat. With the clear tip, you get the stealth of a clear line & the visibility of a hi-vis.

Anybody else have something they'd like to see in fly line design?

Oh ya, how about getting Rio to make that intermediate running line of theirs in hi-vis, too. I've used the clear one for a few years, but it's CLEAR.[sad]

like you i do not like totally clear lines and i personaly do not see the need for hi vis lines but that's just me. The New Rio Striper Intemerdiate has a clear tip and the running line is a light green and has the slick shooter added to it. Cast very well and my clients loved at Harkers. I really like the line. We are going to use it on all of our soundside rods this year. They still make the Clouser in intermediate and it is Transulcent green but no clear tip.
The new saltwater running line is translucent green and fishes well.
I am still not sold on clear tips can hurt but can't really say it helps.

In the past i have used clear, cream, blue, blue/green, white intermediates--some cast better than others but the color did not make much of a differnce--i am speaking reds and specks. Our specks are some of the most agressive fish on the planet and i do not think they care. But my fishing is different than yours--when my water is gin clear --go home. Our best water for reds and specks is lightly stained Sound water.

Hopefully in the furture Rio will come out with some lines for us and other folks whos water is in the middle--not cold all the time and sure not tropical.

I thought that traditionally the theory behind intermediates having neutral colors was to make them "supposedly" less visible to the fish. My thoughts on a hi-vis line with a clear tip, is that you don't need that neutral color anymore. It's like I tell lots of trollers, why not have a hi-vis line if you are using a long leader - it has no draw backs and only makes your life easier.

Is the new striper line you are talking about the aqualux? I don't see it on their website, yet. Is the clear portion just the tip or is it the entire head? Glad to here that the intermediate running line is not clear anymore.

It still is called the AquaLux Striped Bass Line. The first 40 feet is clear and has the Clouser line Taper.

Have you though about using "spike it" plastic worm dye to color the running section. I know in some airflo lines the flourescent backing will bleed onto the clear flylines.

Orvis also has a Wonderline Intermediate with a clear sink tip in yellow.

Is that Orvis line a sink tip w/ a floating running line or a full length intermediate?

How do you like those Airflo clear lines? I might play around with some dye one of these days.

The site as a whole is incredible(Awarded the iMerchant Web Site of the Year). Although, I don't see the line that I have (Clear Sink Tip-Intermediate/Yellow) on the site or in the catalogue. I only see it in Sand(orangish-tan color), I'm sure you can call them up and ask. They even have a Luminescent Saltwater Intermediate.

You should try calling the Orvis Technical Team(1.800.778.4778). They can answer any questions you have about tackle/products. I can't say enough about their Customer Service and all of their products are great. The mark-up is pretty high, but they have a lot of Factory Outlets where you can get really good deals. In fact, there is one in Williamsburg and also a couple in Roanoke if you ever head out to the mountains.

Bull-

I'm still confused. If you have fished this line, does only the clear tip sink or does the entire line sink? I'm looking for the latter.
