See anything flipping? There has to be fish in there now. Once it clears, say Tuesday or Wednesday, the fishing should be awesome. I do my best there when the water is stained, usually get skunked when it's gin clear. I wouldn't even try with those conditions but it shouldn't be but a couple days now.

You come all the way from Rockville for the Shad in Deer Creek? It's good fishing, but not that good! I guess I''m spoiled, only 15 minutes away.

From Rockville you basically have two main choices for shad...Fletcher's to Chain Bridge on the Potomac, or Deer Creek. If you want to hook up with Americans, you basically go to Deer Creek.

Actually, American shad are rarely caught from shore in the Deer Creek area... although it has been done. If you want to hook up with a bunch of Americans you gotta go fish the base of the dam starting mid April into early May. I think I've caught only 1 American at Deer Creek and probably, over the years, 1000 hickories.
I'm going to check out the lower Gunpowder above Rt40 on Wednesday around 10:00am or so. Anyone drive over it at Rt7 or Rt1 today (Tuesday) and checked water clarity???
Hickories are a week overdue. Should start showing up any day now. Most likely they will come in like gangbusters... might be tomorrow.

We had a few hickories in NE creek to night.
HJS,
I was on the lower Gunpowder at Harford Road this afternoon and the water was stained. But not nearly as muddy as Deer Creek. The water is high and fast, as you might expect. It should be decent for Wednesday.
Good Luck,

Hey Jon
Darwin got 4 Steelys in the Salmon, water was low but cold like 38 deg. He also got a hook buried in his hand and a hospital visit.

Here's the latest, these pics were taking around 6:40pm this evening. As you can see the level is down from Sunday's pics and water is not as muddy. However, I didn't see any activity! And down at the mouth nothing was going on there, in fact the water level was higher than Sunday, the river was rippin! I'm off tomorrow, working on the boat and I think i'm heading up there around 2:30 or so. Maybe they will turn on with the warm weather...

Looks mighty fishable to me. And to your question "you come all the way from Rockville to fish Deer Creek" the answer is yes. If the Potomac is blown out sometimes Deer Creek is not. Plus I have the option of the river fishing and the Americans at the base of the dam.
2 hours is nothing. I drive 6 to 7 hours just for a weekend stunt quite often. Capt Frank: When did Darwin go? I've been keeping my eye on the river and it's blown sky high. But when it comes down the fishing should be the best of the year. If these rivers remain high, that's where I'm going. The one steelhead limit seems to have made a big impact on the number of fish still in the system this year.
Potomac and Deer Creek should be fishable this weekend. Doubt I'm gonig anywhere for a little while.

Jon
He fished like 3 or 4 days last week. I think 2 fish might have come from one of the small streams like Little Sandy or Trout Brook. Just not enough fish for me. The other two in the C&R section.

No Problem, Tissy... Glad to share the info.
Looks like the rain didn't pan out to what they were predicting. Best news we've heard in a while...
I'd be up there this weekend, however I'll be away for a couple days returning Sunday. I plan to head up there Sunday late afternoon. I'll be sure to let ya know what's going on then.
