I'm thinking about taking a few hours this week to check out severn run. Any info on this creek would be appreciated.

Thanks,

It gets stocked w/Rainbows (and supposedly a few Browns) twice each Spring. The first stocking has already occred, the second one occurs next week, I believe. The stream is closed for two weeks after the stocking.

Good luck trying to cast a fly rod. The bank is basically a tangled jungle of vines and overhanging trees. And if you try wading on opening day, you will be shot. I hear that Trout fishing can remain good (esp. off the beaten path) into June, but I've been strictly a Power Bait/opening day guy (which makes one wonder why I'm hanging out on this Board ).[tongue]

fisham - Goose is right. Don't know if you're new to flyfishing or to MD trout fishing (or both), but you couldn't find a worse stream to try flyfishing for trout than the Severn. If you are hunting for something better but still close to home try the Little & Middle Patuxent Rivers near Rt100 & Rt32. There is an excellent piece of water directly behind the Savage Mill shopping area. The Patapsco is also very good, especially in the Daniels area, big water too with decent hatches.

Comb through the DNR Fisheries web site for more info. While there pull up the trout stocking schedule and you can click on individual stream names for a stream location maps.

Thanks for the info guys. I'll re-think my freshwater aspirations. I'm going to pick up my new boat within the next few weeks so I'm sure once I get on the water I wont think about Maryland trout fishing. I've been saltwater fly-fishing since about 1991 and have maybe freshwater flyfished 20 times since then.

I haven't fished it for trout in many years, but it isn't a typical scenic trout strem by any means. What kind of boat?

Its a Boston Whaler Outrage.
