saw a drake scaup in my creek the other day. He couldn't fly very well so I figured that he is a cripple leftover from last season. He seemed healthy and was eating mussels off a piling. Kinda neat to see one in July but he's probably feeling a little lonely now.

I saw one in late May down at Hooper's Island, same deal.

Ealier this year coming out of a SR creek I saw a knot of buffelhead along a beach. I guess there were about 7-8 of them, didn't look like the healthiest birds around but nothing obvioussly wrong. A buddy and I were talkin and came up with the same theory. During the season/winter there are always bh's cruising up and down the river.
