I put up several previous posts about the stormwater drainage ditch restoration project being done in my community. With my travels and the bad weather, I have not had a chance to visit the site in the new year until I ventured there this afternoon. The project manager told me they were nearly finished. They brought in a huge amount of sand to fill in the deep canyon, then created a series of pools allowing the water to trickle downhill and filter through the pond bottoms.
The ponds are irregularly shaped and incorporate tree trunks, large rocks, and gravel to make a natural appearance. Most of the site has been covered with good soil and mulch plus grass seed. They have planted a few saplings thus far. I am looking forward to this spring and summer when the vegetation becomes more established.
Several photos are shown below. The project can be accessed downhill through the woods from my backyard. If anyone wants to check it out, let me know.
