need a vhf radio

my vhf radio is not working righ,t dont know anything about them. I can hear other boaters but they cant hear me, so looking for a used one to get me through the winter

if you can hear, but can't transmit, it is more than likely the antenna.

Hook it up on a buddies boat that has an antenna that you know works. Do all the easy stuff first, like checking and cleaning all the connectors, making sure they are tight. If it worked well before, what has changed? Most of the time it's an antenna problem...let us know what you find out.....

Many times it's as simple as checking the hi - lo switch. Sometimes it is pushed on lo and you cannot reach out. Your radio automatically switchs to Lo when you use chan. 13. You will see the icon on your screen. Switch back to 68 and make sure the icon has changed to Hi.
If it was working before with your present antennae that's not your problem. You really should have a Digital though, they make a BIG differance in any radio. Good luck !
