Anyone had any electrical problems with them firing. My manual is in route and wanted to get a jump on it. Going to pull the flywheel and look at stator but then I'll be idle. So, if anyone has any tips I'm all ears. Thanks

I assume you're up on how to pull the flywheel ...

It's probably the switch box (or whatever OMC calls it I just can't think of the name right now) that is on the head over top of the plugs. I had one go out on my 1996 25 evinrude.

Just came to me - Powerpack. I think I paid about $100 for it.

when you get your manual go to the ignition system section and find the part where it decribes how to make a PL-88 you can get the parts needed to make it from radio shack. this combined with a voltmeter will greatly reduce the headaches and save you money by pinpointing the problem and not just throwing parts at the engine

Thanks, I saw that. I have a meter and am looking for a spark tester and then swinging past RS later.

spark testers can be found at harbor frieght or sears

Spark plugs are about a cheap as plug testers. Anyhow, switch plugs on the cylinders to see if the problem follows one plug. I did have the same problem, turned out it was a bad end in the plug wire cap.
Here's hoping your fix is that inexpensive!!

I have done all the checks and now going to pull the flywheel and check incoder and windows. I still have no spark. I do like all the help!

check the magnets on the hub of the flywheel ( inner around the center) that tell the pulser coils when to fire( omc calls them the timer base). before you get to tearing the motor a part check the Neutral safety switch and trace the black/yellow wire to make sure it is not grounding out anywhere

I just put a stator on and it came to life. Thanks for all the input. That is the third stator I have put on an OMC. I was almost sure that was the problem to begin with but did all the tests and picked up some knowledge in the mean time.

I had a 1976 and my budy also had a 199? with no spark problem was insulation on the Coil Pac cracked sparking to the frame instead of the plug. I used a plastic bag for a quick fix to get me back in then replaced coils. I found that two cylinder motors will not run on one.
