Make sure you talk to an independent financial advisor. One who is not also selling investments.

Here are a few very interesting sites.
They have helped me tremendously over the last few years.

zero hedge | on a long enough timeline, the survival rate for everyone drops to zero (http://www.zerohedge.com/)

Calculated Risk (http://www.calculatedriskblog.com/)

Mish's Global Economic Trend Analysis (http://globaleconomicanalysis.blogspot.com/)

The Market Ticker (http://market-ticker.denninger.net/)

............and since I do not post here much and
have little time for feeshing, hopefully that will change soon,
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the posters
and Brandon for a great forum. Its the first place I look when
I want to know whats going on on the bay.
Which is no where near as often as I would like.

Old Hat is a financial planner. I have not worked with him personally, but met him at WAF. Seemed like a sharp guy and definately worth calling.

I am in dire need of a tax consultant that is also an investment adviser....is that what you do?

Every investment I attempt to make, it always states ..."verify with your tax consultant.."

So, obviously, I need someone that can do both....

bmail me...

dont let them charge you more than .50 basis points on your account balance. Thats one half of one percent of assets under management. if it is investment work bmail me and I will help you any way i can. you probably can do it yourself if your case is not that complicated. i am in the biz but I am not taking new clients. but...there is always a BUT...i dont have a bay boat and I usually meet people on their boats to offer any help i can. jnelson

Ok, so i know i should just leave this alone. But are you kidding me?

Now if you are talking about asset management, there is no one that is charging less than 50bps! They might be but you are also paying a nice retainer for their advice/planning. The only other option is that the rep has a minimum and will only take a few million per client. And in that case almost everyone on this board would be excluded!!

I’m just thinking out loud now.... But even if you gave the rep 200k that’s only a thousand dollars for that year!! And he/she doesn’t even get to keep all that. There are payouts to the BD, payroll, office expenses, etc... the rep would have to manage 50M just to GROSS 250k. Even at a high pay out the rep is only walking with 90% of that. Then comes all of the other expenses. If your managing that much you need at least an assistant and an office. Not to mention all your IT expenses. Are you using software to manage it on your own? Are you using third parties? E&O insurance....

Another thought for the client. You have asked this rep to help you. Do you want them to stay in business? Do you think they will work that many hours with all that knowledge for only 50-100k a year? No! And then you are looking for another rep when he leaves the business.

Look, go find a rep that has the knowledge, wants to build a relationship with you, is honest, upfront will all their fees, and generally cares for your wellbeing. Cheap/free advice is just that, cheap and free. You don’t want someone who is looking to "sell" you something and then dump you. You want a rep that is in it for the long-haul and wants to work with you and for you.

jnelson, if you are only charging 50bps i would love to see your business plan! Feel free to PM me and we can talk about what i am doing wrong!

O yeah, I dont want to forget all the expenses from my CFP®.....

I'll get off my :soapbox: now.

- If this post was meant as a joke and i didnt know, then i am sorry. If its not... well then see above  -
