Anyone Else Mad About the BS Board

I spoke with Brandon the other day and he is considering bringing it back. However I cant blame him for pulling it when he did as those three YoYos were threatening each other constantly and it was becoming a giant liability for Brandon. It was taking a great amount of his time and effort.Hopefully he will bring it back soon.

I think Jeff summed my feelings up. I do understand that a few people were the culprit, but at the end of the day it was taking my time that I would rather spend talking fishing or going fishing or flying or doing something else then moderating general politics debates that no one wins. It had too much negative energy.

I may bring it back in the future so threads like this can go there....

I'm a part of several "Coffee Club" type groups. From experience, we have only two basic rules of order to keep things civil.

There will be NO discussion of Politics.
There will be NO discussion of Religion.
When the agreement is violated, everyone leaves the table -- still friends.

Private conservations are fine, but in the group these topics are easily inflammatory -- as you say, there is no end, no answer, no agreement and therefore no reason to continue the discussion.
I was not a part of the BS board, I just never bothered to get the password. Apparently a lot of people enjoyed it and from your/their comments, a few ruined it for the many. Perhaps BS could be revived with someone(or more -- Known only to you) like Russ, who could DELE violators. That would relieve you of the loss of fishing time. Might be worth a try!?!?!?

Well if it's the only way to save it then I'll give it a try. Policing the Bs board would be very simple If I had my way. No personal attacks whatsoever. Heated debate is fine but do not tolerate anything personal. We can be agree to disagree and be civil or go somewhere else.

The No Politics rule was in place for a while. Biggest problem was threads getting hijacked into a competittion of personal attacks, threats and name calling by a handfull of people.

I don't think one person could moderate that board without going completely insane. Russ would be a good choice for one.

I think the moderators with the authority to delete posts/threads and/or ban people would have to be known and not secret. Something like that should be spelled out that if you step out of line, these folks can and will knock you back in line or kick you out if you follow the rules.

Folks will still whine and cry to Brandon, but if he chooses people that he feels are able to do the job without bias, then Brandon can trust that those folks are keeping the inmates from running the asylum.

I never saw politics as being the problem. Threads rarely made it past 2 posts before becoming personal or threatening bodily harm. I tried it a few times but have to admit was never very good at it. Perhaps if I could have managed 12,000 posts the experience would have made me better at it.

I went there now/then. It seemed 99% of the people were fine - it was 5 or 6 that really seemed to cause trouble.

Perhaps a three strikes ( warning ) and you are out would work.

I need to weed out some things on that board and give Russ the keys to that board, once that is done it will re-open.

I frequent another boating site that has an area similar to this where politics are heatedly discussed. This is how they are running it and it is working well. No personal attacks or they are banned.
Politics are always going to be a heated topic as you have one one group of people who need to be coddled from the cradle to the grave, and the other group who believe in the sovereignty of the Constitution. The two views are diametrically opposing and leave little
room for concession on either side.
