Message the TFer merrittime . He'll get you a good deal on a great dog, and your buddy could possibly go check them out. He has a chessie, which he breeds that has it's masters and everything, and he knows a ton of people that also breed chessies.

We got ours from Ches-shores on the eastern shore. Both parents were champions, I actually saw her father competing last year at Westminster. Beautiful, healthy dog but not cheap in any way.
