My son Brian has been on leave for 30 days I take him to the airport this morning. It is very hard to let him go but he is serving in the Navy and will be gone until March 2010. We had a good visit with some good fishing. I had all 3 sons with me Monday and we limited out with rock 30-37" when the first fish hit no one would touch the rod until little bro got his fish. It was a special day. Today is a sad one. God bless our service men.

Some 39 years back I was on a helicopter that due to weather was forced to land at a special forces camp on the VN and Cambodia Border. The base was taking incoming rounds at the time and it was not likely that we could make it to a bunker just 50 yards away so we piled into a ditch alongside the heli-pad. The guy beside me nudged me and pointed to the bunker and over the entry was a sign, "You have not lived till you have almost died life has a flavor the protected will never know" It was signed Anon.
Since my tour I have been most grateful for every day and I look at the young men today and see them doing two three and sometimes four tours back to back and my heart bleeds for them. My year seems nothing to what they are giving. I was just an unlucky hitch-hiker that day but it seems it was only yesterday. I can only imaagine what the memories for these young men and women today will be.
PS thanks for your support of veterans.
