Since I did not go fishing today my wife and I did a little car browsing.
Looked at a Honda Accord and in the same lot there was a Volkswagen dealer.
We saw the new VW CC parked on the corner of the VW's building so when the salesman
pulled the Accord up to test drive I had him pull it nose to nose with the Accord for a
comparison. Test drove both with the VW being a few more $'s. Nice ride but I don't know
much about VW's and the overall ownership experience.
So, the question is: does anyone own a VW CC? Good, bad or indifferent? If no one owns a CC what about other VW's and would you own another one?

Thanks in advance,
Kevin

I had a volkswagen from 2000 to 2003. It was a reliable car with few problems, but the problems it did have and maintenance were pretty expensive to fix.

Can't speak to the VW, but I'm on my 3rd Accord. Sold the last two at 210K+ miles. This one is at 176K and runs like a sewing machine. Very few repairs in all that mileage, despite less-than-regular maintenance. I'd be hard pressed to buy anything else.

I've know two people with Jettas. Both were nice at first but fell apart after a few years. One was purchased new and the other used.

Funny - I was just looking at the CC online tonight. I like the lines and no charge scheduled maintenance for 3 years. There are some good deals on 08 cars and trucks right now. I might look at an 08' Land Rover LR3 ~ 38K That's close to 14K below MSRP. Maybe I'll just go to Canada and buy 38K worth of gold and buy a new car in couple years.

Owned a Jetta Diesel for five years. The vehicle did not hold up well, and the cost of maintenance and repairs more than negated the fuel savings of a diesel. I will not buy another VW.

CC is a great looking car, but VW and Audi have had some serious reliability problems. Particularly electrical. I've heard Audi, and thus I would assume VW have improved in this area in the last year or two, but a Honda is a Honda. They will go forever, and that new accord is pretty nice looking too. I'd go for the known quantity in the Honda. VW's track record coupled with a 1st model year car just seems like a recipe for a headache.

I know of two people that owned them and were in the shop more then on the road.

famous line in my family cirlce... shoulda bought a Honda! Everyone I know with a VW had losta troubles with said VW.

The 4cylinder VTEC Honda Accord is probably the best car ever built. Buy one, change the oil, tires & brakes & it will go 200k+++++ with no troubles. No timing belt to worry about, the accessories don't go bad (water pumps & sensors), 30-33 MPG (even after 170k)...

Unless you have deep pockets, go with the Accord.

My advice is to call Dick Potter at Dick's Autohaus in Wye Mills, 410-827-6501. He's been repairing VDub's exclusively since the 60's and is a guru. He'll give you a straight answer.

VW had production problems during the years they built in Mexico. Otherwise, bulletproof. I ran an 86' GTI for 397,000 miles on the original clutch and motor. My daughter's boyfriend used the car when I was out of town and they trashed the throwout bearing. Finally gave in and got rid of it. My wife has a 98' New Beetle. Had problems getting the dealer in Annapolis to find out why the rear defogger kept blowing CB's...they said it was a bad unit...$$$ to fix. Dick was on it about 15 minutes and found out the geniuses had connected the seat heater connections to the rear defogger...

She'll never get rid of that thing. Great ride, accelerates like a bat outta hell, corners like a Ferrari.

Good luck!

I had 3 VW's in my years of car ownership (I am a slow learner). All 3 were purchased new 2 were Diesels and all were POS. The only nice thing I recall about owning them was the diesels got great mileage, when they were driveable. Funny thing is I saw the CC on the road and commented to my wife that their styling has greatly improved, but I would never consider buying another of their products.

I have an 04 Passat that I love and has been very reliable (62k so far). The CC is based on the Passat. I looked at the Accord and while I agree that they are more reliable, the VW's are more fun to drive and the styling is much better (though the body of the new Accord is really nice). If you want fun/sporty/better looks buy the CC. If you want absolute reliability buy the Accord.

Thanks for the info. The eyes say the VW CC but my gut (and my wallet) say the Honda.
Kind of like buying a hot new IPO stock or a T-Bill.

VW compared to a Honda?
There is no way I would own a VW for several reasons. Low resale, parts availability and cost to repair. Poor design, the window regulators (motors that raise and lower windows) are plastic high dollar, and break frequently. The drain tubes for the sunroof are undersized and clog causing the passenger compartment to fill with water and short out the computer.
Honda, has a high resale value, easy to acquire parts, and any good shop can work on and diagnose issues. They have a good track record for longevity.
Hyundai has come along way in quality in the last few years, you will be selling your self short if you don’t look at one.

Have mixed feelings about VW's, i think the diesel jetta is a good bet, heard the older jettas had electrical problems...

Just sold my 2007 BMW for an Accord...that should tell you a thing or two...although i do miss her, i wont miss spending $1500 on new tires every 20k miles.
