Put in at Hopwell marina wed afternoon and fought the wind and rain to the Harrison bridge after getting bait. Thought the wind would lie down come dark, but not so. Had a tough time getting my 14 ft smokercraft back to the rt 10 bridge, where we caught catfish, but no striper.
Went down to Grays Creek thurs sunup, got bait and went at it again. Caught a 40 lb and 20 plus cat, plus lots of little ones and three small stipers. Threw plastics, trolled plugs, and rattle traps to no avail. The weather was wet and windy, but it was great to be out on the James. Sometimes fishing is more about the adventure than the catching.
Thanks for all the replies to my posts about the striper fishing- always a big help!!

Sounds like you ended up doing ok considering the wind that you had to fight with! Good job!

My buddy and I are going to hit the James tomorrow....he wants to try for striper as well, but niether of us have a clue where to fish for them at...So I am assuming we wont catch any, but at least we can make the most and try to learn some while we are out there...

ughh- cant wait for the colder weather to come so we can get more into the catfishing!
