Today some A-Hole :death: charged $1,900 at Safeway and $600 at a Walamart in the Baltimore area with my debit card information. Navy Fed Credit Union froze my account and contacted my home number. When my wife returned from work, (she works at Marine Federal Credit Union) she got the message and called Navy Fed.

I have to go in and file a written fraud claim(faster than going the online route since there is a 5 day backlog for fraud claims online:eek2:), and once the paper work is processed we will likely get all of our money back within 5 days.

It all sounds rather painless untill you consider I have a $2,600 mortage payment which was supposed to hit the account tonight, and a few other small things like my phone and utilities processing. We had to scramble to move money around to cover the bills and this is real pain. :censored:

Leson learned from speaking with the fraud line people, they are seeing alot more fraud claims lately. Keep on top of your accounts, this could have been alot worse if Navy Fed did not lock the account.... :soapbox:

I have never used my debit card online and only use it for gas and minor stuff at the PX on Quantico. Also FWIW my wife checks our accounts daily for fraud activity and these transactions did not post yesterday. She has worked at Credit Unions for the past 15 years, and she has pretty much seen it all. We just thought we were carefull enough and it was very unlikely we would get hit.

I say we hang all thieves or chop off their hands:death::death::death:, like the good old days.... YEAH I AM PISSED AND THIS WAS MY WAY OF VENTING.......

Man that sucks.

How the heck do you spend $1900 at a grocery store????

The person that rang it up was probably in on it too. The crazy thing is the card company's don't really investigate unless it over 10,000. All they would have to do is pull the video tapes in the stores but I guess that would cost more than refunding you the 2500.

$1900 in Safeway isn't impossible... First the Latte from Starbucks, thats 5 bucks, and then the $1895 of uninsured prescriptions...

:nono: This kind of stuff pisses me off more than anything!!! This kind of theft is very personal. and should be punished very severely. Unfortunately, however, you rarely hear about any stiff penalty for these perpetrators.

Never use a debit card. This happens all this time. Use a credit card and pay it off every month. You'll be alot safer.

That's what we do. I have a West Marine Mastercard (I get coupons every month), and my wife uses a Carnival Cruises card.

They key is being responsible and ensuring that it is paid off EVERY month.

Don't forget to file a police report,,they are the ones who should be investigating this.

TO ALL !!!
When u use a self-service anything, gas-grocery-WalMart,

Always-I repeat always--hit the clear button after u complete
your transaction, if not the credit Card info is still avaliable until
the next user comes along!!!
Sorry to hear about the theft, I had a similar experience but only
a couple hundred involved on a credit card..The Co. backed out
the charges, but still was a pain in the arse!!!

Sister had her wallet stolen by ex-employee and she went to Home Depot and ran up a $1100 bill within 1 hr of the theft. When my sister contacted the local police they said all they could do was take a report. She even went to the Home Depot and asked to view the video, but they refused. They told her it wasn't worth the trouble. GO FIGURE! The credit card company told her they wouldn't prosecute because the value was "Too Low".
Here's a situation where the CC company and the police KNOW who the culprit is and NOBODY does anything --- No wonder these types of theft go un-punished and it's costing the economy and consumers BILLIONS evry year!
BTW -- The empoyee that allowed the "EX" back into the office was fired the next day.

Credit card companies don't care it is in their system for loss and you can file a police report to give you a record of what took place (but next to useless like a PDO accident (property damage only).
I got a call from a guy in South Carolina ask me if I bought 15000 worth of 2 way radio equipment and transmitting gear on my SEARS mastercard to be shipped to the Ivory Coast. Needless to say I have not planned to start any coup or reinforce any political regimes or ship blood diamonds over. So he cancelled the order very nice guy so if any one if interested in 3rd world dictatorship I can give you a guy to get you some good radio equipment.
I called Sears and and said why didn't you call me with all your FRAUD PROTECTION equipment "Oh we didn't notice" Why would some one charge that?? they said you gotta be frickin kidding me. last thing I charged was like 20 dollar amazon purchace (not the river the store of course a kingdom in South America would be nice).
Now it is CASH only operation as much as humanly possible

Quick update, Navy Fed came thru and returned all the stollen money back to our account:clapping2:.

No word if they ever caught the SOB.

Now I need to go out splash the boat and go catch some fish, since momma returned my fishing fund money. Yup she took the money from the fishing fund to cover the bills in the mean time  women. I missed some good weather and decent fishing from the reports I have been reading.

See you on the water saturday...:fishing2:

I just got a call from my CU and hour ago. Both debit cards (wife/mine) have been canceled as of this afternoon. Don't know the damages yet. 2nd time this year. First time was a thief working at a campground I frequent. Since it happened at the campground it was easy to trace to the person. Only time will tell about today's news.
