Left a little late and missed seeing the fleet roll out just as we were pulling into the parking lot. Nice way to start the day...
Met up with the Jackass crew and followed them to the bridge then ducked in behind a bigger "wave smasher". Honestly Im not exactly sure what number we set lines in on and it doesn matter because we had a very slow start. One or two knock downs here and there, few skipjacks. Finally 3 rods go down first to the boat is a football yellowfin, next is a skip jack that tagged along on the planer, the 3rd wouldnt stay connected. Talked to Billy and he is getting all of his tuna bites on the deep rod so I put out planer rod #2 and planer rod #1 screms and we stick steel to another YF. We had a pick at YF, BF, and skipjacks till around lunch time when the fun began. We had been consistently waxing some kings when we found a floating wood box. Pull up to it, drop the jig and kings were suckin it up! Rudy gets ahold of some slinger dolphin and in da box they went. We worked that area and caught probably 30 kings either trolling or jigging. Kept 15 with the biggest 2 being between 20-25lbs.
We got a really good deep mark and we started clearing lines while a couple of jigs were being drpped when the planer rods hauls ass towards the bottom. We all think big eye. After getting strapped in and fight the fish for about 20 minutes we see it on the surface. 70-80# Hammerhead. Damn it, not the tuna we wanted but we got a good look at the shark, got the hook out and sent it packin. Tried a couple spots for tiles and sea bass, only found some small sea bass and headed home. Great fishing with Billy and Team Jackass, glad you got back on the water!
Total:
5 for ? Tuna YF and BF
