Stethoscope?

Any idea where I can find a stethoscope? I have one bad injector and was told I could listen to each injector through a scope to determine which one is shot. I really don't want to take out each injector, replace it with the new one and repeat until I find the bad one. Any other ideas or input would be appreciated. Motor is a 2000 Merc 135 Optimax.... aka the injector killer, this will be the second one I have had to replace... My research tells me I will have to replace all of them before all is said and done...

I would try a long handled screw drive before buying a scope. A screwdriver works for most everything else.

Second that suggestion. Have used this method many times to isolate engine noise on a diesel. It works very well, just make sure you don't complete an electrical circuit by accident.

There's an air injector and a fuel injector for each cylinder on the optimax. If you're sure you know what the problem is go for it, but if you buy the wrong part you'll probably spend way more than necessary to get the job done right (likely no return on electrical parts). A diagnostic scan puts you right on the money and injector replacement takes less than 10 minutes (though I don't know the flat rate figure). Point is that you may be better off paying a competent repair shop to diagnose and fix this problem.

Thanks for the response, I had the exact symptons about two months ago and was warned by the shop that others may go bad soon.

You always have one, and they work just as fine. Put the screwdriver on the head and put your ear to the handle,,,, you'll hear it clear as day....:thumbup:
