I have a 225 hp Yamaha salt water series motor on a 22 ft Baystealth bay boat. I store the boat in my driveway and use it about five times a year. When I do use it I go to the Chesapeake or south Florida and leave in it the water for two weeks to a month. I have bottom painted the boat with a copper based Pettit Horizons Ablative type paint. This is working fine. However, I have left the motor unprotected. I am getting some barnacle buildup on the motor mount and attachments. I have read about PETTIT alumaspray for this purpose. Does anyone have any experience with methods of protecting the motor mount from fouling? In addition the U shaped anode remains in the water when I tilt the motor all the way up. The anode is also getting a lot of fouling. The Yamaha manual says not to paint the anode, but how can it be protected from fouling? I scrape the barnacles off the anode as best I can but never get all of them. Also how do you know when the anode needs to be completely replaced. Sorry about so many questions but I don't live near a good source of information.
