are there any guys that have tried the crabs in the river for bait? I caught on in the cast net the other night, put him on the old 10/0 and after about 20 minutes, WHAM!! landed a 33 pounder..

What river?
I have used peelers for a long time to catch alot of things, and one thing that dosen't suprise me is all the different things a catfish will send to his belly. Ive seen them hit spinner baits, beetle spins, hotdogs, buffalo wing bones off the dock at a local river bar, ect ect.
Congrats on a nice fish.

Yes they work great.. But the perch will pick them clean so you need to check your bait regularly
The best rig I have found is two leadered bait holder hooks on a snap swivel.
One from the top and one from the bottom.
Slip sinker above swivel with bead.
They are about 4 bucks a dozen at crab shacks if you ask them to keep the dead ones in the cooler.
Never ever forget to remove them from the boat or you will smell them for years.
A big blue can eat dozen crabs a day.
