View Full Version : Fishing Report Is it a fishing report if you don't catch no fish?

Fished all day Saturday in dutch gap and didn't catch a single catfish. I can't even say the fishing was slow, it was nonexistant! I feel sorta bad for hacking up all those gizzard shad when there was nothing to show for it at the end of the day. Even the shad were hard to come by.

So without any body count or weights to brag about, here are the days statistics that can be shared: Burned up 16 gallons of gas getting traveling, ate 2 sammiches, 6 breakfast biscuits (those McDonalds McGriddles are pure crack for people like me with an overactive saliva gland), 1 glazed danish, dozen peanut'n'butter crackers, a few other things I forgot, and drank 9 bottles of water.

It could be the lack of beef jerky that did us in. Usually we have at least one bag of that onboard. Had I known it would be so slow I would have brought some boiled eggs and a salt shaker. Another thing I noticed was how nice everybody was at the boat ramp that day. Odd. Next time I'll remember the beef jerky and throw out a few "hurry up buddy!" at the boat ramp.

Man I hate getting skunked.

Sorry to hear about your trip. I love catfishing and go two or three times a week in the winter. I have had more than my share of skunks in the summer so I don't go anymore from May - October. You might find me on the Bay though

Wow!! What a menu you had out there. I went this past Friday night out of deep bottom and we caught three small cats. The water temp was in the mid 80s. When you pulled in the baits they felt hot. The only thing that got any bites was eel chunks. May need to wait until the water cools.

Try fishing at night , Waddy. Then if you don't catch anything, you can't tell 'cause it's dark.

Went out with a couple guys this past weekend on the James. We caught a 30, that unfortunately had no fight in him, b/c we all fell asleep and were reeling in the rods in the morning, and he had managed to wrap himself around about 8 lines and was simply dead weight reeling in. Also lost a huge fish at the boat, caught a glimpse of him, 50-60 easy, pulling drag at will. Broke off on a swim ladder on the back of the boat. And had another one snap the 40lb test on the pull down, which was so hard, the rod bounced back up and out of the driftmaster. Had to see it to believe it. One of the guys had apparently clamped down the drag while fighting a small fish and never loosened it back up. So basically, a bunch of missed opportunities. But good company and learned some new things out there. All action was on eels. They are the ticket right now.

We went out both nights as well. We caught a 20 lber and a 35 lber friday night just above JP. We stayed on the boat. saturday we caught right many dinks during the day. Saturday night we fished above JP again and caught a 41 lber. We ended up running all the way to within sight of 295 bridge, mainly to get out of wind. Old faithful hole put out for us again. Stayed on the boat that night too. We didn't catch anything after midnight.

Nice to meet you Berkley. That is one sweet boat you got! It did get quite choppy out there Sat night and we were below JP, luckily it began to die down. I hate the wind.
