View Full Version : new fuel sending unit

My fueld gauge has been reading empty no matter how much fuel is in the tank, so i replaced the fuel sending unit this weekend, and now I have a FULL tank ALL the time, even when half full or close to empty.
the unit is the same length as the old one so I am pretty sure it is the right size. any thoughts?

Try rotating it to see if you get a diffrent reading.

I like these a lot better and you don't get that annoying needle bounce as the fuel sloshes around in the tanks

Wish i had seen these before. If I cant get this one working right, ill go that route.
Ill try spinning the current one to make sure it is not hung up.

New sending unit is fine... ohm range from 30 - 260
When I pulled it out and manually lifted and lowered teh arm my fuel gauge needle moved BARELY.
So me thinks the gauge itself is going out???

OK, so I contacted teleflex and they sent me a troubleshooting guide to the sender and gauge.
Everything checks out!! So now I am confused.
Should I just add inline resistors?? One other possibility is that the sender is shorting out. But it is brand new and when hooked up to an ohm meter works fine. How do I test if it is shorting out??

Could be the wires between the two componets. Did you run your ohms test at the sender or the gauge? Try testing it at the gauge connection and see what happens.
