Tried getting out earlier to get to the spot I like and at 4:15 a comm. already had 3 long lines set and was running them. I know they can put out early but they can't run untill we can. Might have to have him checked out. Anyway, crabbed another spot, 3' - 6' and had 3/4 bu. #1's and the rest #2's. After I set my line the rains came and so did the lightning, CC draw bridge was closer than Bear Cr. so I ran and stayed under the bridge for about an hour. At one point I tied the back corner to a pipe sticking out and just pushed the front off the wall every so often, well the wind changed in an instant and before I could untie the boat the back of the boat was against the wall, tried with all my might but couldn't keep it off so I now have a few scratches on the cowling, I think a little touch up paint and new 150 sticker and you won't even notice. Nice being out on the water after the storm passed. Most lightning I think I've ever seen in one storm.

Just an FYI

I've crabbed in 30mph winds, rain so hard that I literally had crabs swimming in the boat, and even snow in NOV. But when it comes to lightning, I run like hell.
Might have something to do with being struck while crossing a ball field yrs ago.:D

Iv'e seen what lightning can do to a 100' oak tree so I don't mess with it at all. It's a fight you can't win:yes:

Good to hear the crabbing is still pretty good in the river.

You got lucky John. It cost me a bunch for new electronics the last time I got caught in a storm.

thanks guys, lightning is too serious to play with, first scratches do hurt, wasn't aware comm's could start 1/2 hr. before rec's, luckily part of my scratches were on the 150 sticker so I might get a new sticker and that will get rid of 1/2 of them, the rest I'll see if I can get some touch up paint

The first cut is the deepest! I know how you feel but there will be many more to come. It's a crabbing and fishing boat:thumbup: Enjoy it

Based on what John said the Commercial guy was not allowed to start running the lines until 4:35. Not trying to be nit picky.

If anyone was crabbing on 8/2/08, the legal dipping time for comms that day was 5:08 AM in the Inner Harbor area (Patapseptico). (Sp.?)
Rec gear setting time: not before 5:38 AM.

Ida Mae,
While you were pullin, I was dippin' right down the river from you. It sure is nice having a top to cover ya when the Wx turns nasty.
Came home with 3 baskets full. Gorgeous, uncrowded day on the Pax!!! I guess the weatherman kept the boys at home. I'll have to send him a thank you card one of these days.:D I counted 6 boats all morning.

the way I thought it went was that comm's could put gear in at any time but couldn't run 'till 1/2 hr. before sunrise, others here say 1 hr. before sunrise, either way he was running his lines at 4:30.

Jerry, it wasn't the weather. On avg, that's 3 more boats than usual, even in good weather. I guess because the crabbing sucks down there this yr.
