Got back into the flatheads pretty good the last week or so on buggs. Caught 15 flatheads the other night in one spot, 2 over 40, and 3 between 30-40. Same night caught 15 blue cats up to 20. Fished a couple more nights to have decent luck with fish up to 30 each night but no real trophies. Hopefully the bite will continue to pick on up as fall arrives, the best time of the year to fish!

Thanks for the report. I tried fishing Buggs last year, but just didn't have any luck. Been on the James ever since, but I know Buggs has some beast catfish in it! Congrats.:rockon:

Just curious were those flatheads caught in the rivers or have they moved out into the lake yet, i would really like to fish for them but don't have the right type of boat to going up the river, thanks for any info.

hey man,
got em in the lake. the big fish from the club tournament last saturday was caught on down the lake where there is plenty of water. go get em!

Thanks for the info i am glad to hear that the fish are being caught in the lakes now, i have been wanting to go all summer and try and catch some big flats and blues but all i have heard was they were all up river. I will start school at ECU in three weeks and hope to be able to get to buggs and fish, how long do the flats and blues stay concentrated between Clarksville Bridge and the rivers, and again thanks for the info.

there are fish in that area all year long. The flatheads can be caught best until late october then they slow quite a bit. I have caught them all winter though, but not in any significant numbers. The blue cats can be caught all year long through that stretch though.
My favorite time to fish that stretch is late sept, early october. You can go early in the morning and catch tons of flatheads, then go catch some shad and go down between clarksville and goat island and catch stripers and blue cats drifting. Good time of year to make a day of it and get a mixed bag.
