Thanks to all those that have given me advice on getting started on some crabbing.

After lots of reading and thinking about practical crabbing with my kids, I am going with the open top style traps. I am looking for 20 to 30 topless traps for sale. I am hoping some one is trying to get rid of some used ones but for the right price I would purchase new. Looking for the Foxy mates ones but does not have to be. Just got into crabbing so I have nothing so I need all the equipment. Let me know what else I need. Any and all advice is always welcomed.

Sorry to sound cheap guys, but between gas prices, and my four kids, things are tight.

Thank you

I just went ahead and bought some from Capt. Bruce. Everyone says that they are very good and I figure that they will last for a few years and be worth the investment. We'll see. The big one's were about 14 or 15 bucks a piece.

Alberto, All you will need is the traps, 15' of nylon line and a float for each trap. Remember to put your phone # on each trap. You will need a bushel basket and some crab tongs too. The more you try to pick them up by hand from the bottom of the boat the more chance you will end up on the wrong end of the crab:yes: big ones really hurt. Good luck to you and no matter how much you tell the kids not to mess with the crabs......they won't listen. One good bite is worth a thousand words. Have fun Gary

I bought the bigger topless traps from Capt. Bruce and love them! If you talk to enough people on this board, you will get an overwhelming response to get his.

Tydog, I have about a dozen of the ring traps. You can have them free if you want them.
