Here are the stats:
20 topless traps with necks
Dropping traps at #9 marker a little after 5:30 - back at the launch at 1:30
35 total crab: 18 between 7' and 8 1/2", the rest in the 5 1/2" to 6 1/2" range.
Lots of pulling for a few crabs, but by far the best quality crabbing I have ever had. Stayed away from the crowds for the most part.

very nice looking crabs I had roughly half bushel of them last week, they are huge
Why do some people not get it. If you would throw back them white bellies , there would be some nice crabs in the river come Sept. and Oct.

Thanks for the report. Some call em "easy picken" crabs. Either way, I'm sure they were great after a long day crabbing. Enjoy.

Not sure what you mean. I never said they were light, and in fact every crab was quite packed! Oh well...

With all due respect, lets face it, "every crab quite packed" would be an overstatement to say the least. Its an insult to those of us that crab that river. Especially since I and many others I know crabbed the same area in the same timeframe. Dude I could care less if you keep a crab that has rice paper for a shell, thats up to you and BTW to the rest -it is lawful. As a matter of fact, I keep white bellies on occasion because they are easy for my 6 yo to pick. Now having said that and having pulled thousands of crabs out of that river in my lifetime, those are light crabs in that pic. Unless of course you took some comet and a scrub brush to them before cooking AND you were the luckiest crabber in the river to get all fat heavy jumbos while the rest of us schmucks were pulling in junk that looked exactly like your picture. Anyway, thanks for the report and Best of luck to you in the crabbing future! :))

Maybe you are crabbing the wrong spots on the gunpowder because the crabs I have got out of there are big and heavy. I even had ones that looked white underneath but the underside shell was not paper and the crabs were full. Granted I did catch some that were paper and I threw them back as always but I would say that was less than a handfull of crabs out of the bushel of jumbos that I kept last week.
If you are in near maxwell point the crabs are smaller and the bigger ones are lighter. There are a few heavy ones in there but not as many. Maxwell is not the ticket on the GP right now.

Unless you were in my boat pulling traps, or at my table picking the crabs, I don't see how you can presume to know exactly how full the crabs were. There are six people eating crabs that evening that will absolutely disagree with your obvious "picture analyzing expertise".
Not every crab we caught that day was full, but the first dozen that I steamed (pictured) were the largest, heaviest of the bunch. Next time I'll take a pic of the crabs upside down so as not to insight such an outcry to save the papershells!!
For what it's worth, the camera only has a max resolution of 3.1 mega pixels so the pics may not reflect true color...
