Went out this morning from 6:30 - 9:15 - couldn't find a place to lay my traps!!!! AT least two commercials working the river, plus the mouth is completely blanketed with pots. ARGHHH! How long before sunup do you guys go and stake out your turf?

I heard that the afternoon crab bite is very good. I just haven't had to time to try the theory out.

I go in the afternoons. We have been doing fine.:yes:Yep. Watch the tides (http://tbone.biol.sc.edu/tide/sites_useastupper.html). As long as there's current, we've done just as good (often better) in afternoons this year.

Best current conditions for Magothy this weekend is ~1pm- 5pm.

magothy has become real popular this year....as recent as last year, I'd have the whole place to myself. I don't the mind the crowds, I just don't like when someone lays their string of traps 50 feet off my string.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. Went back out yesterday afternoon, following your suggestion. I was able to lay my traps out near the mouth. only set out twelve traps, and caught 2 dozen 6" 'ers in about 2 1/2 hours. The biguns we were catching two weeks ago seem to have vanished. Odd, though, it was real slow, then on one run we had a keeper crab in all but two traps. Then real slow again. Never really picked up.

crabbed Saturday morning. Got on water around 5:30. Thought it was Christmas and I was at a mall. Boats everywhere. Not much caught 2 dozen keepers. Going to try an afternoon run and see if that brings better luck, if nothing else should be able to find a place to crab
