Just called my son and father-in-law, they are crabbing on the Chester this morning. They've caught 10 crabs so far. That's with a 2000 foot trotline. I told them to go to a 8 feet of water because the temperature might be to hot for them in the shallow water. They will probably come off the water around 11:00 I will give you a update.

All in all, I think I'd rather be out on the Chester crabbing, than stuck at work in a cube. :))

They ended up with half a bushel.... Very slow day. We crabbed in the same place around Father's Day and managed a bushel.

I think it is the cow-nose rays that are eating all the rockfish and crabs. :)

We crabbed the Chester yesterday after electrical problems, we launched the first time at 6 am & found out the motor wouldn't crank, called US Boat they responded & checked the usual stuff that was $140 then we put it back on the trailer & took it to Lou's who not only fixed the problem but added steering fluid. We finally launched at 10:30 am & crabbed all day from 6-14 foot of water in four different places with traps & trotline & managed 8 crabs, we put the boat on the trailer & headed home at 8pm stopped off for 2 dozen crabs on the way home. gas towing down & back $75 US Boat $140 repairs$45 fuel in the boat $60 crabs $70 for crabs a total of $390 for a day out.:eek2:

Thanks for the info SU2!!
Doggydaddy, that was one expensive trip, also interesting when you
figure cost per crab!
$390/32 total crabs is 12.18 per crab!:eek2::eek::eek2::eek:

Sometimes it just goes that way, next time the boat wil be that much more reliable..

I was out in the Chester yesterday as well and only managed 2 dozen or so. Started in 5 to 6 feet and moved out to 9 to 12 feet with 1200' trot line, neither produced very well at all. Talked to a couple guys at ramp and they had same results.
