All,
I've got a lowrance LCX-16CI. Last year the depth sounder started acting up and I figured out if I switched to the 50Khz mode it worked fine. So this year the 50Khz has stopped working. I think its the transducer but I'm not sure how to tell with out spending the money for a new one. I'd hate to waste the $108 to find out its the unit and I should have just bought a new one.

Any suggestions on how to tell if its the transducer or not? Since the unit is 6+ years old should I go ahead and buy a new one?

Thanks for any help.
Jason

you can get a 200kw for around 60 dollars. Tranducers do go bad, and is most likely your problem. I would rather spend $60 now and find out before spending $1000.
What's your location? You can try you lcx 16 on my boat if you are in the neighborhood. (Va-Md).

I hadn't thought of just buying the 200khz transducer. I think I will go that path. I was looking at the dual freq transducers. I can stomach $60 to save me $1000. I am in the area. I keep my boat at Breezy normally. Thanks for the offer to try mine out on your boat. I'm pretty sure its just the transducer so I think I'll try to get one to install this weekend. I'll let everyone know how it turns out.
Thanks
