I had a charter on the Dragon this Sunday. Was supposed to be a jet boat trip way up the Dragon but I had no prep time on the jet boat so I dragged my Mako down to test it on some really thin water. I hit three logs and jammed it up swamp guts and cuts. It did well. We started with a top water bite that never worked. Changed to mid depth cranks and picked a bunch of dinks and this spot tail croaker.

Changed over to Wacko's since tide was high LGMouth tight to cover under a brutal hot sun.

The drive home was long and made longer as a trailer wheel passed me on the highway.
Oh well ... still have three more wheels..

How bad is the grass approaching the power lines up there this year. I haven't made my way up that direction since early February but would love to do it soon.

I've never fished the Dragon. It looks like it could be a good place to do some kayak fishing for largemouth.

Second set of lines, seems like last year when I got up that far the river was choked with grass

Good luck on that venture. 7 miles from closest ramp.
The best choice is a jet boat for skinney water access to the major creeks.
Almost too skinney for a regular bass boat.
OH yes that is a red drum.. The Piankatank gets a good run of spot tail croaker.

It is a great place to fish out of a kayak, but not where this gentleman is, way up. We have a cottage on the river a few miles further down from where those pictures was taken. A cou0ple of times a year, especially in the spring, my kayak fishing buddy and I take the boats up to the bridge over the dragon on RT 602 and tear up the bass and pickerel. You will need your wheels if you own a Ride 13.5 as you have to get down to the launch next to the bridge. Easy tote if you have a partner, heavy tote if you are by yourself. Cannot get too far either way without portage but it is pretty fun fishing. Good luck:fishing2:
