Saw this letter on another site dealing with the 8.5" towing reg in NC. Although it was written for NC residents I would think they would still be interested in those of us from other states who come to NC to spend out vacation money? Look it over if you tow through NC send it, it may help free up some of the restrictions on boats over 8.6...

I reviewed the bill and it will do away with permit requirements for boats up to 10 ft. wide. The bill has passed the NC Senate and House but I cannot tell if it has been signed by the Governor and will go into affect July 1, 2008.

That would be GREAT. Now we need a few more states to follow!

I was unsure what stage the Bill was currently sitting? Just thought any support would be a help.... The old 8.6 law was out dated for todays equipment and highways. Va needs to follow with the same change. thanks

S1695 has past the Senate but has been referred to the House Finance Committee. It is not on any of the House calendars for debate or vote today. There is no chance it will become law by July 1, 2008. That means one additional year of delay.

I just spoke to the Clerk of the NC House Finance Committee. H2167 is a more simple bill and takes care of the wide trailer issue and has a much better chance of passing. Recommend e mailing the House Finance Committee members supporting H2167.
