After some interesting gaffing attempts on a mako when the head wouldn't release and then just fell out I want to get some ideas on how others attach the head to the shaft on a aftco flyer.
i use 20 lb test wrapped to the head and attached to the shaft.
Thanks in advance

I crimp 200# to the head and the release tab. It's strong but if the fish pulls hard enough it will release.

:DMine came with the Harpoon tip so I use that first and figure the other one out if I ever get a fish like that! Maybe one day I'll get to use it. martin:D

I have tried several things and found electrical tape holds and will release everytime. Also make sure you make one wrap on the line attached to the gaff handle with electrical tap. This will keep you safer from getting tangled.

I crimp 130 mono from head to handle, and 1 wrap of duct tape around rope and handle. The mono usually breaks before the duct tape.
Another tip if you are going to leave the head rigged to the handle- put a light coating of vaseline on the shaft where it goes into the handle- this will keep it from seizing in place.
